Xbox One Controller will last ten years - Microsoft

4.3
After subjecting the Xbox One controller to rigorous testing, Microsoft claims it will last ten years.

Accessories and hardware manager for Microsoft, Bob Brown, told Pocket-Lint that the aim was to create a controller that would last ten years - the projected lifespan of the Xbox One.
Brown explains that when testing the Xbox One Controller, "each button gets pressed over and over, between 4-5 times a second," while the thumbsticks are also tested with repeated use.

The test determines not only how the controller can withstand vigorous button mashing, but also whether each button delivers the right result, regardless of how many times it has been pressed.

The controllers are also dropped repeatedly in order to determine shock points, and to ensure the inside is not damaged on collision.

The Xbox One controller has been finalised, however Brown says testing is still ongoing. Currently, the controller can handle over 3 million button presses, which Brown claims is over the target.

imgur I'm still willing to bet that I will get wear marks and slits under my thumbsticks... ._.

I'm wanting to know is if the thumb sticks will mess up like they do on the Xbox 360 controller. Like where after a while they will sometimes get stuck or slightly move up, down, left or right by themselves.

BDB
ShadowBoltDashie Maybe under normal play but I guarantee those people who rage and throw stuff around will break it no problem.

Haha, I know right! I break a controller every once in a while, because of the rage.

Why it's just a video game. I know people get mad but throwing controllers isn't going to make what has happened disappear.

Sorry for the double post, but just imagine how this is tested. Imagine the robot going insanely fast clicking buttons. O_0

3 Million button presses, that is a few years of your life. I wonder if that is a cumulative total or that is per each button. I am sure there will be problems with it that will make the lifespan only last about 5 years, I mean how many people still have the controllers from the first 360?
