Microsoft rolls out two-step authentication system

4.7
Microsoft is enhancing security measures across a whole suite of software, including Xbox Live, the company announced on Wednesday.

Customer accounts for Windows, Xbox Live and Skype will be given the option to upgrade to a two-step system, where either a secondary email address or telephone number can be used for back-up authentication.
The wider aim is to gradually pull Microsoft's services closer together, with one enhanced password system used across multiple devices.

A statement from the company reads: "A Microsoft account is the key that unlocks your experience across these products, from your Windows PC to your Windows Phone, from Xbox to Outlook.com, from SkyDrive and Skype to Office and much more."

In January, CVG reported that Microsoft is planning to replace Xbox Live voice chat with Skype, in a move that will place the VOIP service at the centre of the firm's entire range of communication software.

I think they should give you the option to do this instead of automatically doing it.

It's a good idea for M$ to do this, hackers these days are becoming much more prevalent so increasing security measures is worth it

They haven't screwed up their computers. They are the most superior when it comes to computers (except for Win8)..

Windows 8 is actually pretty good, it's just the interface that's lame. It's pretty much the same as 7, which everyone seemed to love.

I like the Phone number backup, definitely will help hacked people get their account back

Vivador I don't know if that is better?

I think it is because now if someone gets into your account an you have your phone linked to it you can recover it that way, because most of the time the person who takes your account changes all your information

iiExaMplezZz That image with the blue tiles looks like a pre-release version of the metro update, although I do agree it looks better than the green tiles.

Yeah it does look far better in my opinion with the blue tiles

I wouldn't mind it blue or green, I just don't want a big change to windows 8...
