Microsoft rolls out two-step authentication system

4.7
Microsoft is enhancing security measures across a whole suite of software, including Xbox Live, the company announced on Wednesday.

Customer accounts for Windows, Xbox Live and Skype will be given the option to upgrade to a two-step system, where either a secondary email address or telephone number can be used for back-up authentication.
The wider aim is to gradually pull Microsoft's services closer together, with one enhanced password system used across multiple devices.

A statement from the company reads: "A Microsoft account is the key that unlocks your experience across these products, from your Windows PC to your Windows Phone, from Xbox to Outlook.com, from SkyDrive and Skype to Office and much more."

In January, CVG reported that Microsoft is planning to replace Xbox Live voice chat with Skype, in a move that will place the VOIP service at the centre of the firm's entire range of communication software.

Snag One of the best things they've done this month. This will truly help with the amount of hacked and stolen accounts on XBL.

A lot of stolen accounts are from stupid people giving their account details out and sadly there is no way to eliminate the stupidity of people in the world.

I think it's a great idea, more security is great, just enough to help prevent thieves.
