Ever since Microsoft's purchase of Activision Blizzard for $68 billion was announced, one of the biggest question marks hanging over the studio's head was what it would do with Call of Duty. COD has always been one of gaming's best-selling series, so there was some doubt that Xbox would put such a big money-maker on Game Pass and risk losing so much profit after having spent so much.
On the flip side, Call of Duty being included as part of Game Pass would be a massive boost to the service and give more players a reason to subscribe, something that Microsoft has placed a lot of value on over the last generation. It's a pretty big risk either way, but The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday that Microsoft had finally decided that Call of Duty 2024 will launch on Xbox Game Pass.

Although getting one of the year's biggest releases at launch might seem like a big win for Game Pass users, it doesn't seem like it's going to be quite so simple. Since The Wall Street Journal's report was released, several insiders have claimed that Call of Duty 2024's arrival on the service will result in some changes to the tiers of Xbox Game Pass, which could even mean a price increase.
The reports started when gaming insider eXtas1stv tweeted that they "can assure you that changes are coming to Xbox Game Pass Tiers mainly due to Call of Duty". This same claim was made by gaming insider shinobi602 on ResetEra, who also claimed that some changes would be made to the service.
"Changes are coming in the form of pricing and a tier change."
It seems like the details haven't been fully confirmed yet, as both insiders didn't go into detail about what exactly is going to change. The clearest indication we have comes from NateDrake, who backed up the claims made by eXtas1stv on ResetEra and said that the changes will be related to pricing and a tier change.
This indicates that Call of Duty 2024 being on Xbox Game Pass will either result in the service as a whole having a price increase, or a special tier being made that includes Call of Duty at a higher price. It's not entirely clear yet which way Xbox will go with it, but we're sure to find out more over the coming weeks.
