Devs shaped PS4, wasn't designed 'in an ivory tower somewhere in Tokyo'

4.6
Sony's PS3 was a console built on ego that had harsh executive level repercussions following it's launch. For the recently revealed PlayStation 4, which Sony has been developing for several years, they took a more democratic approach, talking to developers and publishers on what it should do.

"We've been very closely involved in the development of the machine," said Hermen Hulst, co founder of Killzone developer Guerrilla Games, to sources. "It is no longer designed in an ivory tower somewhere in Tokyo, it's shared with us, with Naughty Dog, with Sony San Diego – and together we've built the machine."

The source assumes developer consultation and discussions with publishers like Ubisoft led to the PS4 being designed in line with modern PCs, so devs could easily learn and work with the hardware. Other design elements noted were greater social integration and controller elements, like concave triggers and the headphone jack.

Emazing-Lights My estimate guess would be around $500-$600 as Mazur stated. It just seems more resonable seeing how it's going to be a new console.

right, i feel as though it would be close to what the Ps3 cost when it first came out

yeah same here

That's a ridiculous price IMO. If it were that much, I would only buy it if it were to be a massive bundle with includes games, controllers, headset. All the usual. I think $450 sounds more reasonable.

the PS3 cost about $500 when it came out, and the 360 was $400, so we'll see what these two companies have in store for us this time around

But it's the future now, and they expect us to have so much money. I can see a bundle pack going for $700 on release.

No way, It's so much cheaper for them to make the consoles now.. I'd say 600 max.

$600? Way too much imo. It will be probably $500 max.

I could see them pulling a fast one and saying "oh yeah, $800 because its a brand new revolutionary system!" or similar. People will still buy it though :/

$800 is way too much for me, I'm confortable with $400.

I'm fine with a little under that.

Well I'm fine with anything, seeing as I'm not buying it either way!

Didn't the PS3 go for $600 on launch date?

Yea, maybe a little bit more than that.
