Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition texture pack support coming

4.8
The list of features still to be added to Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition is quite long but 4J Studios revealed Monday that texture pack support is being added to the hit Xbox LIVE Arcade title.

"We have started work on texture pack support," the studio said in response to a fan's question. "No dates for any releases yet though."

Adding support for texture packs will allow users to change the look of the blocks that are used to construct the Minecraft worlds along with mobs and the user interface. This feature has been a part of the game since it was in alpha but it was unknown if it would ever come to the console version.

How it will be implemented is still a question since Microsoft does not allow for easy modding via Xbox LIVE. 4J Studios is already working on "tailored mods" for Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition so it is possible the developer could implement a similar solution for texture packs.

Yeah, I don't see them implementing mod support. Probably just the same way they did the skins. Set a selector in game and make you purchase the texture packs. Microsoft isn't going to let them give that much away for free.

I honestly think Microsoft will let the modding pass by because they'll know modding isn't bad on minecraft and also there's a difference between modding and hacking, Microsoft is more strict on hacking then modding. In this case textures would be considered modding since you're modifying the games interface so I'm pretty sure mods and textures should be seen in future updates.

Vlif Nice! Also can't wait for mods!

Yes. That should be VERY interesting. I can't wait to see where 4J and Mojang will take Minecraft, considering they are on two different systems/consoles.

If Microsoft even allows the mods. It could be interesting how 4J and Mojang could incorporate this, since Microsoft is so hardcore on modding.
