More PS5 consoles were sold in the US last month than any other individual PlayStation system has ever achieved in the month of February.

That’s according to Mat Piscatella, executive director and video game industry analyst at Circana (formerly NPD Group).

In the company’s latest monthly sales report, which was published on Wednesday, Piscatella noted that PS5 has topped US hardware rankings in terms of both units sold and dollars generated since the start of the year.

And in a follow-up tweet, the analyst confirmed that PS5 sales last month reached a record high for any PlayStation system in the month of February.

For an individual PlayStation platform yes.

In January, Sony signalled that PS5’s long battle with supply issues was finally over, and the company has said it expects the console to smash PS4’s global sales record for the first three months of a calendar year.

Last week, US retailers significantly discounted Sony’s PS5 God of War Ragnarök console bundle in what would appear to be the first major discount of its kind since the system launched in November 2020.

Normally priced at $559.99, the bundle is currently widely available for $509.99, representing a 9% discount.

With a standalone PS5 console costing $499.99, the deal essentially means purchasers are getting a copy of God of War Ragnarök for $10.

Circana also said today that Hogwarts Legacy was the best-selling US game of both February and 2023 year-to-date.

Seven of last month’s top 20 best-selling games were new releases including Wild Hearts at No.8, Like a Dragon: Ishin! at No.9 and Octopath Traveler 2 at No.10.
