Rumor – Microsoft is Among Potential Activision Buyers

Vevendi, the majority stakeholder of Activision Blizzard, has began “testing the appetite of possible bidders.” Vivendi has a 60 percent stake in the biggest video game publisher, Activision Blizzard. Interestingly, Microsoft’s name has come up in the list of potential new suitors

“Although a formal process has not started, bankers close to Vivendi are sounding out cash-rich trade players, including China’s Tencent and U.S. duo Time Warner and Microsoft, as well as private-equity heavyweights KKR, Providence and Blackstone,” Reuters‘ sources claim.

The French conglomerate’s stake in Activision has an estimated price of 10 billion dollars.

If Microsoft buys this Sony is screwed, cuz they will make everything exclusive to the new Xbox..... But they could make a lot of money selling games for all platforms.

Woobie I could care less, As long as prices don't increase and I can still play CoD I'm all good.

Microsoft will probably buy it and make it exclusively xbox 360. Because they favor 360

Basically, with Xbox/Windows exclusives, everyone has to buy a Microsoft system, which people will be fed up about. They will get people who switch over, and hell, all of the new customers will obviously have to get an Xbox. Due to the people fed up, they might just release the games on other consoles and make money from that.

Either way, Xbox and Windows/PC exclusives or not, they have an opportunity to suck in some bank!

It's a possibility that Microsoft will make every game Xbox and Windows/PC exclusive. However, I really don't think that will happen. I'm sure they wouldn't mind pumping out the games for PS3 (and in some cases Wii) gamers as well. It means more money for them, and partially controlling a portion of the Sony (and maybe Nintendo) market.

CFO if microsoft was to buy them call of duty would be exclusive to xbox and pc! awesome

If Microsoft was to buy them it would be a huge error on their part to make it exclusive to Xbox and PC. The PS3 market is probably just as big as the Xbox market and they would lose Billions of dollars from excluding it.

Also, Call of Duty isn't the only game published by Activision Blizzard.

Activision:
Crash Bandicoot series
Guitar Hero series
Call of Duty series
Prototype series
Tony Hawk franchise
Spider-Man series
Spyro the Dragon series

Blizzard Entertainment:
Warcraft series
StarCraft series
Diablo series

Probably a few more, I just got these from the Activision Blizzard Wikipedia page.

The same billions from not letting the Halo franchise on PS3? Sure they'd notice the market and the missed opportunities but excluding them makes perfect business sense from a monopolizing prospective, it would mean all those PS3 users would need to buy Xbox 360s or a fresh gaming rig which means more windows license money for MS. You have to make sacrifices here and there but the payoff would be huge.

-Perfect- I wish microsoft would buy them, Maybe they would start to make good call of dutys again.

Activision doesn't make Call of Duty Derp...

that is true but activision owns the call of duty series, the developers have to do what they are told basically by the publishing company, such as activision they rule with an iron fist over their developers
