What I Want Microsoft to Do with the Xbox 720

4.6
In a world full of Xbox 360 owners who hate the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 3 owners who hate the Xbox 360, there are rare breeds of gamers who may own one console but don't necessarily feel much, if any, disdain toward the other. I fall under that category of gamer, and though I've never owned an Xbox console, I can't say I hate Microsoft's gaming machines. Personally, I hope the Xbox 360 sticks around for a few more years, but with all this talk of the next Xbox supposedly being in the works, I can't help but think about what it would take for me to snag the console on day one.

Here are a few things I really hope to see the next Xbox bringing gamers, and there's a big chance that if Microsoft delivers, I'll be getting the system on day one.

More Exclusives

Microsoft consoles aren't exactly known for their exclusives, and that's part of the reason why I usually opt to go with PlayStation platforms. I can't say I particularly care for Gears of War, and while I certainly think Halo is a great franchise, I can't help but want more. I know I'm not the only one, and I really don't think those of us who want more solid exclusives on an Xbox console are being greedy. The fact of the matter is that the next Xbox should have more games that you won't find on other consoles. And that brings me to my next point ...

How About Putting Rare to Good Use?

Remember when Rare used to make amazing games on the Nintendo 64? Its IPs such as Banjo-Kazooie and Conker's Bad Fur Day were excellent, and the developer even did some cool stuff with Nintendo's Donkey Kong series. This shows that Rare can craft wonderful gaming experiences under its own banner, as well as take existing franchises and delivering pure gold with them. How about it, Microsoft? Have Rare develop a sequel to Conker's Bad Fur Day and a traditional Banjo-Kazooie game.

More Motion Gaming Awesomeness

Motion control gaming is a niche that really only appeals to certain individuals. Though the Kinect got off to a slow start, it has recently managed to support compelling games like The Gunstringer and Fruit Ninja Kinect. Took 'em long enough! Here's hoping Microsoft releases some great games right off the bat if it decides to give us Kinect 2 when the next Xbox comes around. No, motion gaminng may not be for everyone, but if Microsoft is going to do it, it might as well do it right from the beginning.

XBLIG Quality Control

Xbox Live Indie Games is host to some outstanding games. That said, you really have to dig hard just to find those games. Let's hope the next Xbox offers better quality control over what goes on the channel, because right now it's super hard finding the good games, and a lot of game makers with great ideas suffer as a result. A better XBLIG is good for both gamers and developers.

Any Chance We'll Get a Free Online Component?

OK, so this one's highly unlikely. Microsoft charges a fee for its Xbox Live service, and it does so because there's really no denying that it is the optimal online gaming experience. But still, that's money we can be spending on a game, and we all know Microsoft makes more than enough money from its hardware sales. Plus, if the company actually does decide to release more exclusives, it'll rake in some sweet revenue that way and we can play online for free!

No Need to Rush the Darn Thing

The next Xbox will come, and people will buy it. Hell, regardless of whether or not Microsoft does any of the things I suggested above, its follow-up to the Xbox 360 may be the first Xbox console I buy just because I really want to finally own one of Microsoft's machines. Having said that, there's no reason to rush it. I know there's a lot of pressure from analysts and developers who say the next Xbox will launch in, like, a year, but please, Microsoft, don't rush the next Xbox console. We don't want system failures, hardware deaths, or overheating blunders. Take your time, test out the console fully, and make sure it will last everyone a long time.

three red rings of death

I really want to buy the next Xbox system. No, I've never owned one of Microsoft's platforms, but that's not because I hate them or anything of that nature. It just hasn't happened. If the company can address any or all of the suggestions listed here, though, I can guarantee it will have a new customer. And while this may be my personal list of things I want to see when the new Xbox does launch, I'm certain they would make plenty of other games happy, too. If anything, give us some stellar Rare games. Please, Microsoft?

iAmMasterF as an online gamer..WHAT I WANT:

- NEXT GEN GRAPHICS - atleast 1gb dedicated ram

- GEARS OF WAR - to look & play like the original gow1... but better :D

HALO/BF/COD - to have huge scale multiplayer maps with awesome graphics & ALOT more players online (not just 12 or 24...am talking 50 PER TEAM!

something that is better than COD. (ea respawn?)

XBL is great but could add more online features to improve connectivity to the online community

DEDICATED SERVERS.

BLU RAY DRIVE - would probably stop me getting a ps4.

Dedicated servers would come from the individual companies developing the games. Not Microsoft and the Xbox 720.

Someone here is an untech-savy moron and it isn't me...

Nor is it Prod3gy-Fanboy...

Just saying, but even though he states it, you can tell he's a PS3 gamer right off the bat just by reading the several paragraph headers. Just to get this out of the way, I own both consoles and have really come to frown upon fanboys.

First he states that we need more exclusives which is somewhat true but I prefer quality over quantity. What I mean by this is that most PS3 games either have a great singleplayer campagin and a shitty multiplayer component or even no online components at all. Let's take Resistance for example. It has great online, well thought out multiplayer gameplay but I blew through that emotionless story within three hours. The only game I really felt like I got a fully experience with was Little Big Planet 2, but that's because it's a limitless game creator. What I'm trying to get at is that when I played Halo Reach or Gears of War 3 I felt like I got the full package instead of some half assed game that I rarely pick up anymore.

Later on he goes on to say that he thinks Xbox Live should be free. I don't agree with this at all. I have a have a really good internet connection and still on PSN I lag out of every one out of five on COD, BF3, U3, and K3. On Xbox live within the past six months I haven't lagged out once. I would rather pay sixty dollars a year to help pay for the servers than have a shitty connect on every game on that console.

Then to top it off he goes back to that whole debate weather or not they should have taken more time to work on the console than they did. To set things straight from my knowledge the RROD occurred around 45% of the time on the older 360s and 25% of the time on the Slims. On the older PS3 the YLOD occurred 35% of the time and only 20% of the time on the slims. Now sure on the PS3 you have a slimmer chance of getting the YLOD but if you got it you were ****. By that I mean you had to pay one hundred plus dollars to get it repaired but with the Xbox all you had to pay for was shipping and if your system was SOL you would receive a shinny new system.

I guess if you didn't want to read through that whole thing you could just read this to understand what I'm getting at but if you actually stuck it out and read that whole thing I applaud you good sir. Back on track, What I'm getting at is that the Xbox 360 works just as fine as that PS3 and delivers better quality games that you'll keep in your console for longer. I don't agree with whoever wrote this post.

I think this person is being a little unrealistic, raking in revenue from exclusives = Free online?
No, xbox live costs to manage and maintain servers, and obviously, some profit, but more exclusives will still cost microsoft money and they will still have to split with devs on the income, so making online free would be most likely impossible and detrimental to the new xbox.

yeah they shouldnt rush it, they just came out with new xboxes and they arleady want a new console. I think they should wait

Definitely agree that they shouldnt rush the next gen xbox

I would love for the Xbox 720 to be affordable, quiet, have great connectivity, less chance of laser burning disks, less chance of overheating after playing for hours upon hours like a no-life, more USB ports (just incase you get all sorts of stuff powered by USB) internal power brick, STOCK hdmi or component cables, less chance for RROD (if possible), cheaper hardware, and lastly it should be fully customizable...if you agree or disaggree comment below. :)
