Microsoft Previews redesigned dashboard for the Xbox One

Microsoft today outlined the features that are coming in Xbox One version 2002, also known as the February Update. It's available for Insiders now.

One new feature coming is the redesigned Xbox One dashboard, which was originally unveiled in July and has gone through several iterations since then. It gets rid of the Twists, putting everything on one screen. Instead of the tabs, you'll see dedicated rows for Xbox Game Pass, Mixer, Community, and the Store. This should make the UI faster, since the console won't have to load all of the separate screens.

Microsoft is touching up My Games & Apps, making it more organized. It's easier to group content, and trials and demos will be labeled.

Xbox Live messages will now support images, which is a very basic feature for a chat service. Those messages can come from the Xbox app on iOS, Android, or Windows 10.

Microsoft is promising more control over bundled games from Xbox Game Pass. If a bundle is available, you'll now have the ability to just install certain games from it, rather than having to install the whole thing.

Interestingly, you can now choose where notifications will appear. You can now choose between six different locations on the screen to see notifications, although games can override that if that location will ruin the experience.

As usual, there are Mixer improvements, this time around for viewing. You can set the chat to "classic chat", which gives it its own dedicated space to the right of the video. Also new is that you can set the resolution of the video you're watching, and finally, you'll be able to see more information about streamers that you're watching.

Finally, Microsoft is promising more suggestions for when you're running out of storage. There will now be an option to move your game to external storage.
