October is upon us, meaning every live service game is adding some sort of Halloween content. Sea of Thieves is no exception with its spooky update titled Fort of the Damned.

The Fort of the Damned update as described over on the Sea of Thieves website, has the dead taking over Old Boot Fort. "Using a Ritual Skull and the six coloured lights of the Flames of Fate – obtained by being sent to the Ferry of the Damned in various fatal ways – pirates can wake the Fort and set about sending its sinister skeletal defenders to oblivion. Riches are sure to lie within! Savvy pirates should talk to Stitcher Jim for more information. He’s likely to be found scouting out the Fort from a nearby island."

The fort is defended by a new type of enemy, Shadow Fate Skeletons, whose only weakness is a flame from the Ferry of the Damned.

Also coming with the update is a bunch of new cosmetics and skeleton pets — a monkey and a parrot. Pets were added as part of the previous September update, Smuggler's Fortune. Now players can have spooky skeletal versions of a monkey or parrot join them on their voyages across the sea.

Two new bundles have been added to the Microsoft Store. The Cursed Companions Bundle — which ties in nicely with the Fort of the Damned update— contains a Skeleton Marmoset and Skeleton Cockatoo. It also includes the Taunt Emote Bundle, 550 Ancient Coins to spend on premium cosmetics from the Pirate Emporium and 25,000 gold. The Cursed Companion Bundle is retailing out at $16.99/£14.24/€16.99.
