It’s hard to believe that when it first launched, Rainbow Six Siege had a soft reception, both critically and from players. But slowly, the game has been built to a solid experience that many people are enjoying. If there’s one game that you can point to and say it’s proof that the GaaS (Games as a Service) can work, it’s Siege. And a lot of people are enjoying it, a lot.

Via the game’s official Twitter, they announced that Siege has now reached a staggering 50 million players. That crazy number makes the ambition from the game’s eSports Director to get to 100 Operators seem a lot more doable.

Rainbow Six Siege is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. It’s free to play up until September 9th, so now is as good a time as any to jump in if you’re curious.
