Battlefield 3 Not Competing With Call of Duty?

n a recent interview, Battlefield 3′s executive producer Patrick Bach insists that the Battlefield series is out to carve it’s own niche in the FPS genre, not to knock Call of Duty off its throne as FPS king.

“Honestly, we’re not trying to go after CoD,” Bach says. “Of course there will be crossover – it’s a first-person shooter, it’s modern-day, and there are resemblances on locations, even – we’re all inspired by the same media and the world around us.”

“But to be a star you need to play your own songs.”

“We have so many things in our game that aren’t a part of Modern Warfare, so it really comes down to personal preference. You choose based on the depth you want, the maturity level, your own personal taste… it’s all about how you get your fix.”

Focusing on creating their own top tier FPS and not worrying about staging a coup with Call of Duty can only result in good things for shooter fans. Yes, there will always be comparisons between the two franchises and competition will be there whether the Battlefield 3 team wants it or not, but choosing to ignore the competition and instead focusing on making the best game possible is an instant win for us.

Battlefield 3 is currently scheduled for an October 25th release date.

So how much did you spend on a console + computer for typing that message? 600 total? I could build a nice gaming PC for that much. In addition, Steam games are MUCH cheaper than their console counterpart.

Call of Duty runs at 60 FPS because the game itself is running on an outdated engine that is just updated for every new CoD game. That is not a bad thing for the fact that every CoD game has the same basic mechanics. The usual things updated are lighting, hit detection, explosive, and physics mechanics. As well as the look of how characters move. Since the game has relatively little new advanced content added engine wise, there is a lot of room for it to handle a higher FPS.

Battlefield 3 will run on a new engine. That was specifically made to be able to handle more advanced mechanics that could not be able to run on a less advanced engine. The game is littered with groundbreaking effects and advancements that have really only been seen on high end PC's until now. Frostbite 2 at this point has been so loaded with content and new game mechanics that it is relatively impossible to handle 60 FPS. Consoles can't handle it yet.

And when your playing a game your attention is elsewhere. You won't be able to tell the difference when playing, not like staring at one cube on a screen. Saying you won't buy a game because it runs on 30 FPS is ignorant, Because almost all games run on 30 FPS and look no different than CoD does. So play to your preference, buy one or the other, or both. But please do not hop on the bandwagon and join the fight because everyone else is. Its stupid. And your stupid for going along with it.

You can moan about graphics. But in the end, its the gameplay and story that make a good game.

Both games have good gameplay. But they are difference.

Stop argueing and have a good time playing what YOU want to play.

Then why the hell is a gaming PC a waste of money? Games are usually better on PC anyways. Plus modding is great on PC (See star wars mod for CoD 4, that is a **** insane mod.)

It can also be your regular computer, it doesn't need to be just for gaming.
