Released almost two weeks ago now, Sony and Santa Monica Studio’s God of War has already garnered critical attention and praise for its epic scope and action, and now the game’s tremendous critical attention has led to tremendous sales.

Sony has revealed over on the PlayStation Blog that God of War has become “the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive” ever, with the title having sold over 3.1 million units worldwide in its first three days of sale since launch, marking the period from April 20-22.

Alongside the sales announcement, Santa Monica Studio Head Shannon Studstill also shared a statement on the remarkable sales and acclaim that God of War has received since launch, with the full statement from Studstill below:

“I would like to personally thank the millions of fans around the world who decided to embark on Kratos’ latest adventure with us. Your support is truly inspiring, and it’s a reason why we push ourselves every day to go beyond the boundaries of play. I’d also like to thank our Creative Director, Cory Barlog, and Director of Product Development, Yumi Yang and our entire amazing team at Santa Monica Studio. The belief in the game’s vision and the passion for storytelling across the team is undeniable.
