Fortnite Hit 3.4 Million Peak Concurrent Players on February 4th

Epic Games’ Fortnite has been on a rather strong run as of late, especially thanks to the introduction of Fortnite: Battle Royale. However, it’s latest record may be its biggest yet as the developer announced 3.4 million concurrent players on February 4th. Epic noted that this makes the game “perhaps the biggest PC/console game in the world”.

In the official post announcing this fact, Epic also went into detail about how the extreme load of concurrent players caused six different “incidents” over the past weekend. These range from account service outage and XMPP outage to cloud capacity limits and throttling. It’s a very in-depth read and follows up on the excellent communication the team has provided to fans about recent problems.

Fortnite’s last major milestone was in January 2018 when it announced that over 40 million players had downloaded the game till date. The concurrent player record at the time was over 2 million players so to see such a large jump in such a short time is astounding.

It broke the record for concurrent players, more then PUBG also.


Holy shit, to be fair it is technically free. Wouldn't be surprised if it surpasses GTA.

its a huge hit due to the game being free and just how fun everyone is having. The building in the game really makes the game a hit too.


Very true. If this game was not free, It would not bring in close to the amount of players it has. Building in this game is also a great addition to it.


Probably wouldn't change much since all the hype this game is getting. Even if the game was priced and not free to ply, we'll still see a huge number of players


I think if the game was priced from the very beginning it would not have as much hype as it does right now. Therefor not bringing in the amount of players it has.

really glad this game is free to play, sure it's got Cosmetics but hey who am I to complain, they're awesome, great milestone and no doubt will it grow even more.

People can argue it wouldn't make those numbers if the game was the same price as PUBG but Epic also makes a lot of money off the micro transactions from the items in the shop that are updated daily and then the featured items that are updated every few days. Regardless it's a great game and super fun to play with friends or even solo.
