Over 5.9 Million PS4 Units Were Sold Worldwide in Holiday 2017

Sony Interactive Entertainment today revealed their sales figures for the 2017 holiday season, and per usual, they’re quite staggering.

Over 5.9 million PS4 units were sold through in holiday 2017, which now puts the console at a lifetime sales number of 73.6 million units sold worldwide. By the time we next hear about lifetime sales for the PS4, it will likely have passed the 75 million mark.

As for software, Sony says that more than 55.9 million units were sold in holiday 2017. This number is compromised from both sales at retail as well as digital sales on the PlayStation Store. Lifetime, the PS4 has now seen 645 million software units sold in the console’s lifetime as of the end of 2017.

Sony’s President and CEO John Kodera spoke about the company’s sales throughout the holiday season while also revealing some new figures for the PlayStation Plus subscription service, which is now over 31 million subscribers.

Thanks to the continued support from our fans across the globe, we are honored to announce remarkable sales during the holiday season. PlayStation Network continues to demonstrate spectacular growth, with the number of PlayStation Plus subscribers surpassing 31.5 million, and PS Store recording its largest-ever monthly sales of content in December 2017.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to our community and our partners for helping us achieve such phenomenal milestones. We promise our unwavering commitment to bring more amazing experiences to our fans, including exclusive games and innovative network services, as PS4 continues to flourish as the best place to play.

In what is surely surprising to no one at this point, Sony’s console continues to be a juggernaut in terms of sales with no signs of slowing down anytime soon. The strong showing from Sony over holiday 2017 bodes well for the company as they enter what is arguably the console’s strongest year in terms of first-party software with games like God of War, Detroit: Become Human, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Days Gone, Dreams, MLB The Show 18, and many others slated to come out before the end of 2018.

BB-8 Big numbers. I wonder what they do with that kinda of cash!!

I was thinking the same thing. However I think it cost like $200 to make the console, I could be wrong. Was reading something when the XB1 first came out. They were only making $50 in profit.
