A Leak May Have Revealed The Release Date For 'Red Dead Redemption 2'

4.2
If you've been waiting to hear when you can start playing Rockstar's next open-world epic, a leak from a Danish retailer might have your answer. According to a listing on Coolshop (via Game Informer), Red Dead Redemption 2 is currently slated for June 8 -- Game Informer notes that the retailer accurately leaked the release date for GTA 5. A previous announcement said that Red Dead Redemption 2 would be arriving Spring 2018, and June 8 does still qualify as Spring.

An important note: even if this is a reliable retailer leak and June 8 is currently the intended release date, the game might still not come out then. Rockstar is known for its delays, and Red Dead Redemption 2 has already been delayed once. While we don't know too many details, we can safely say that it will be the sort of giant, sprawling game that a developer can fine-tune for years if it needs to. I don't currently expect to see another delay, though it's always possible. Red Dead Redemption 2 is certainly big enough to claim its own spotlight outside of the holiday season.

We don't know too much about Red Dead Redemption 2, other than the fact that it's a prequel to the critically acclaimed Red Dead Redemption and stars a square-jawed outlaw protagonist named Arthur Morgan. It's an open world Western that takes place in a land that's a little bit wilder than that of the older game, and what we've seen before is drop-dead gorgeous. GTA 5 is an incredible-looking game even when you're playing the last-gen version, and it's exciting to see what the developer will be able to do with a game built from the ground-up on current generation hardware.

Right now, one of my biggest questions is whether or not the thing will get an open beta. The game will have an online component akin to GTA Online, which over the years has eclipsed the single player version of GTA 5 to bring in an absolutely colossal amount of revenue for Take-Two. GTA Online was basically DOA when it launched, however, arriving as it did in the middle of a string of high-profile online service flops. The game industry has responded to that embarrassing era by making open betas standard for games with an online component. Rockstar has been pretty secretive in the past, and an open beta would be a break from that tradition. Still, the developer covering itself may provide us with an early look at the world.

I feel like RD2 has been delayed so much already. It's like GTA 5 all over again.

Id rather have it delayed again than be a broken release

Even though this is unconfirmed the release date of June 8th is still pretty exciting, I just hope it doesn't get delayed massively again.
