Call of Duty WWII Early Retail Copies Won’t Work Without Day One Update

4.5
Call of Duty WWII is the next mainline Call of Duty game from developer Sledgehammer Games. It is set to release on November 3rd for the PS4, Xbox One and PC. While the game is not out until next week, retail copies of the game are out in the wild now according to images that are currently being shared across the social media.

One such image that is shared on Instagram shows Call of Duty: WWII along with Super Mario Odyssey. This appears to be a retail copy for region 2 although the user hasn’t share any screens or details from the game. Another image was shared by a reddit user who has since deleted his account.

One user in Germany has also received his copy early and a screenshot can be seen from the game that shows that an update is required from the PlayStation Network before the game can be played online. This is perhaps an attempt from Sledgehammer Games to stop early leaks for Call of Duty WWII after Black Ops 3 and Infinity Warfare were both leaked online days before their official release.

Currently, there is no footage available for most of the game so Sledgehammer Games appears to have succeeded with the way the game has been locked to an update, although it is possible that the update is released as the game gets closer to launch. Call of Duty: WWII will be released on November 3rd for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
