Star Wars Battlefront II will fix annoying issues of other DICE games

3.8
Star Wars Battlefront II is already fixing one problem that some players of developer DICE’s more recent shooters have been complaining about, and that’s by offering free DLC in place of paid expansions that some claim segregate the player base in games like the first Battlefront or the most Battlefield games.

But it looks like DICE is further committing to learning from its past “mistakes” by making some other changes in Battlefront II, according to Reddit posts by Peter Vesti Frendrup, who’s lead level designer on Battlefront II and Battlefield 1.

One of the major changes that DICE is making with Battlefront II is how it releases DLC. As opposed to the first Battlefront and especially its most recent major release, Battlefield 1, DICE will be releasing smaller pieces of DLC with a much higher frequency in order to make it “feel like there’s more stuff going on,” according to Frendrup.

Battlefield 1, for instance, recently dropped its first major DLC release since March with its In the Name of the Tsar expansion. While this expansion did add 11 new guns and six new maps, it was released almost six months after Battlefield 1‘s previous expansion, They Shall Not Pass. This slow release schedule has drawn criticism from some of Battlefield 1‘s players, especially since In the Name of the Tsar is only the second of four planned expansions for Battlefield 1, which was released in November 2016.

Additionally, DICE is focusing on fixing two of the biggest issues that some players had with the first Battlefront by attempting to tone down choke points and corner camping.

DICE’s Battlefront games can be played in third-person and first-person, but third-person players had a major strategic advantage over first-person players thanks to its wider field of view, which allowed third-person players to see around corners and catch first-person players off-guard.

According to Frendrup, DICE has addressed this issue by bringing the third-person camera closer to the player character, meaning that players “can look around walls and such less than before.”

As far as choke points go, Frendrup stated that DICE will be closely monitoring the game to see when choke points go from being fun, intense close-quarter experiences to pointless, grenade-spamming cemeteries, with plans on making adjustments. He’s probably referring to monitoring and gathering feedback from the upcoming Battlefront II beta, though it’s very possible that at least some of the consistent updates that Frendrup is predicting will include changes to some of the game’s maps after the full game’s release.

Star Wars Battlefront II is launching for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on November 17th.
