Overwatch Has Generated A Billion Dollars With Ease

4.4
Still have doubts on how successful a franchise Overwatch has become for Blizzard in a short amount of time? A new milestone for the game will certainly convince you otherwise.

The company has announced today that the game has now made more than $1 billion, setting a new record for a newly introduced franchise on the market. The company has made note that between general sales of the game and Microtransactions (mainly in the form of Loot Boxes), not to mention over 30 million registered players, it’s had no trouble becoming “Blizzard’s fastest growing new franchise.”

This announcement was made earlier today during an earnings call with Activision Blizzard, and allows Overwatch to join other billion sellers in the club, including Call of Duty and Guitar Hero. But there’s no question that this franchise is the quickest to reach that mark, without having to rely on so many sequels to get it there.

As a result, the game has managed to push the company to its best quarter to date when it comes to online engagement, as it managed to reach 41 million monthly active users across all of its franchises with its help. That’s a 58 percent increase from the previous year, before Overwatch made its debut.

Of course, having a separate esports division for Overwatch has helped quite a bit as well, as the Overwatch League has done really well for the company following its announcement, and the more serious competition for it is set to take place later this year – something that die-hard fans of the game can certainly appreciate.

Nearing its first year anniversary, there are reportedly big things happening with the game, including the possibility of three new Heroes joining the party, along with a possible new event and maybe even some more single player content being thrown in. Blizzard hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but between its first year anniversary – happening on May 24th – and the E3 showcase set to come next month, we’re in for some big stuff indeed.

Unlike cod and those other rng games, Blizzard released their rare/legendary drop rates, rare (purple) being 1/8, and legendary (yellow) being 1/13, which is pretty awesome.

And they do it perfectly only giving cosmetic items.

I've bought my fair share of loot boxes trying to get those Mercy skins.
