Xbox Head details Project Scorpio pricing; Says it is a "premium" console

4.6
We have a couple more months to go before we get a full reveal of Microsoft's upcoming console, codenamed Project Scorpio, but Xbox Head Phil Spencer has detailed a bit of what the console will be like in a recent interview.

Prior to his interview, we knew that Scorpio would have something similar to the average console price point and that it will be packing some power. According to Spencer, during an hour-long interview with IGN Scorpio will be more expensive than an Xbox One S and will be for the "premium" customer, similar to what the Elite series is.

"I call it a premium console because I want people to be clear that the customer we're building that for is the premium gaming customer," said Spencer. "The person who buys the majority of the games, the person who's playing the most games, spending the most hours, spending the most dollars. It's like our Elite controller. I call that a premium controller.

"I'm not trying to scare anybody on the price. We're going to come out on a price that we think is fair for the product that we build and the customers will tell us as they always do. I call it premium because I don't want people to get confused that somehow Scorpio is the thing that is going to take over the Xbox line."

While Spencer didn't outright say the price, he did hint that Scorpio would hold a higher price point than the Xbox One S. The hint came when Spencer detailed that the Xbox One S would remain the top seller, even over Scorpio.

"The majority of the consoles that we're going to sell are the Xbox One S and I'm very proud of that," he said.

This is what he has said for the past few months regarding the Scorpio. To me depending on the price is a day one purchase, and I cannot wait to hear more.

Eternity I'd expect a $500 price tag on this. Not too much higher than $600 if they want to sell it fairly well. I bought my Day One Xbox One for the same price. But now that the Scorpio is coming out, Im going to keep a close eye on it.

If what they show us convinces me, I'll drop the money for it. If not, then I'll just keep waiting for the next one!

its a premium console, why would it be the same price as the xbox one was on release? it will likely be closer to the $800-$1000 range. Your not gonna get a 4k capable console for less than $600 unless the textures are all low quality and running at 30fps.

Lol no? If it was that expensive then it wouldn't sell period. PS4 Pro is almost the same in terms of power and it's launch cost is $399. For $800-1000 you can buy a PC capable of real 4k.

"They don't wanna scare anyone" oml there probably talking $500-$600

I would expect around $450 - $599 for the price. I don't think they would price it higher then that if they want to make the consumers happy.

This is simple marketing. It's likely gonna be over $550

Would not be surprised if the console was at least $499 to $599.

I am still highly excited for this console.
