Samsung will reportedly kill the headphone jack in the Galaxy S8

4.2
It's almost Christmas, and iPhone fans that like to joke about Samsung copying Apple are well aware of that today, as a new report from SamMobile says that the Galaxy S8 will not feature a 3.5mm headphone jack. But while Apple is certainly among the most notable cases of headphone jack removals with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, Lenovo had already done it in the 5.2mm thin Moto Z.

According to the site, Samsung may also be ditching the physical home button, something that's been a staple of Samsung devices for years. The fingerprint sensor will reportedly be integrated into the display, which would be an impressive feat.

That display is going to be 2K, once again dispelling rumors of a 4K display - which seem to show up every year. There could be any number of reasons for going with 2K, such as the amount of strain that 8.3 million pixels puts on the GPU compared to 3.7 million, or that a fingerprint sensor would likely have to take up space between the pixels, and 4K might not leave enough room for that.

According to numerous rumors, the Galaxy S8 will be announced at Mobile World Congress this spring, and it will use a Snapdragon 835 chipset. It will likely feature other advanced features such as a non-exploding battery.

Bluetooth is taking over, we've known this for a long time know. Even Apple is killing the headphone jack, which I honestly dont have a problem with. I hate when my wires get tangled. Hard to manage to not tangle them. Hope to see this soon. Just sucks you have to get Bluetooth capable headphones or ear buds. But oh well.

Haven't got a phone so I'm all good.

Well it's not like any of us didn't see it coming.

I don't see an issue with this.

I don't get the issue with removing the headphone jack. I got an iPhone 7 Plus last week and will get the S8 next year. Just use the adapter it comes with or get some wireless headphones.

I swear if they do this im gonna switch to blackberry. :troll: but seriously they better not do this.

Omg not Samsung too now. They better replace it with something better or I'm going with a different brand when I decide to get a new phone

Lol .... "It will likely feature other advanced features such as a non-exploding battery." I think its stupid to remove the AUX. If the phones can't be thinner without them then keep it a tad bigger. Who gives a sheet if its slightly slimmer or thicker

SkatesPosted:

I don't get with all the backlash and hate Apple got for removing the headphone jack, Samsung goes and does it too. Well I guess this is what the future holds. Rip headphone jack 2017.

If AUX continues to be phased out we might finally get some good popular alternatives. Inb4 toslink.
