Samsung will reportedly kill the headphone jack in the Galaxy S8

4.2
It's almost Christmas, and iPhone fans that like to joke about Samsung copying Apple are well aware of that today, as a new report from SamMobile says that the Galaxy S8 will not feature a 3.5mm headphone jack. But while Apple is certainly among the most notable cases of headphone jack removals with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, Lenovo had already done it in the 5.2mm thin Moto Z.

According to the site, Samsung may also be ditching the physical home button, something that's been a staple of Samsung devices for years. The fingerprint sensor will reportedly be integrated into the display, which would be an impressive feat.

That display is going to be 2K, once again dispelling rumors of a 4K display - which seem to show up every year. There could be any number of reasons for going with 2K, such as the amount of strain that 8.3 million pixels puts on the GPU compared to 3.7 million, or that a fingerprint sensor would likely have to take up space between the pixels, and 4K might not leave enough room for that.

According to numerous rumors, the Galaxy S8 will be announced at Mobile World Congress this spring, and it will use a Snapdragon 835 chipset. It will likely feature other advanced features such as a non-exploding battery.

Sawk Don't use Samsung products but I guess this is a cool feature, plus they have to keep up with what Apple are doing so makes sense

...Are you serious?
This isn't a feature. Jeez. Taking away a headphone jack is the opposite of a feature! They're not keeping up, they're just putting themselves back down to Apple's level if they remove the jack.

A headphone jack is important to some, especially if you love music and have a really nice headset to use it with.

I'll never back/buy a jack-less phone until the market is able to provide a similar alternative to it - and I don't mean wireless.

If anything, they should be adding USB-C to be the audio port. That's an upgrade.

There isn't a problem with removing the Jack. The Jack is outdated, and the USB Type-C used on the new iPhone 7 takes audio input. Apple should have theoretically created earphones to support that but they didn't. They decided it was best to charge for overpriced wireless earphones.

I hope Samsung opts for USB-C and Earphone manufacturers start developing for that and not the 3.5mm jack.

Theoretically, USB-C is better fit for the job in every way than the 3.5mm Jack.

I think the best solution would be to just add another micro USB port for the Samsung and another lightning port to the iPhone. It might look a little silly, but at least you'll be able to charge and listen to music/watch movies at the same time with higher quality audio.

Can we all just agree that headphone jack is not needed anymore? I can't remember the last time I said, thank god this wire is here.

MSX I seriously hope not. no headphone jack is so annoying

I agree having a headphone jack is just so easy to listen to music just plug them in and listen.
