If it was a mistake then you will have to pay it back. If you don't give it back they could take a legal action but that also depends on how much it was.

Definitely contact them to see what is up. Of course you want to keep it but lets say you don't report it and then they discover it was a mistake they will come after you and could end up owing alot more than what they gave you. Do the right thing and just let them know. Maybe it is money owed to you and then you are good to go.

You need to make them aware of the possible error.

however much it is I'm sure it's worth it to contact them, not worth the stress/hassle of them taking it further. Who knows, they might just like you

I would contact them to make them aware.

Usually if you had been overpaid you would have to make this back via deductions.

So with you no longer being an employee they could legally seek it back through civil debt.

Number of ways it could go.

*They ask for it all back and you comply (you've not lost or gained it wasn't yours in first place
*they appreciate the honesty and ask for a bit back (you get a little win for being honest and it wasn't yours anyways)
*They havent the means to reclaim it legally so just let you keep it (big win)

Alternatively, you dont say a word and try go as normal however if they did contact you I'd advise complying right away. Doesn't need to get nasty, especially if they have means for legal battle they would just walk over you. You could play it dumb and say you don't check bank and will pay back.

Hope it helps,

Im guessing that Dutchavelli is from the UK, in which they will 99% of the time not appreciate anything. They will either ask for it back or just say keep it

This!

I was once overpaid and the company contacted me within a few days asking for me to pay it back. I did, but I also searched my rights etc.

In the UK you have the right to pay it back over an allotted time, they cannot force you to pay it all back in one go.

That said, you are still liable to pay it back.
