Introduction

Flipping or merchanting is the act of buying an item from the grand exchange and then turning around to sell that same item at a profit. This can be used to make profit quickly. They do have a tax that you have to watch out for when picking the right items to flip.

The more money you have, the more money you should make. This tutorial will be done using 75M cash stack.

1 | Resources / RuneLite Plugin

  • Download Flipping Utilities Plugin
  • OSRS Top Price Rises List
  • OSRS Most Traded Items List
  • Grand Exchange Top 300 Expensive Items (larger profit margins)
  • GE Buy Limits

You will want to download Flipping Utilities plugin linked above. It is incredibly useful during this process. The other charts can be used to find items that are increasing in price and are highly traded. The more an item is traded, the faster it should buy/sell. Price rise items can be used for finding flips that may increase in price for a larger profit margin.

It is good to find items that fit your budget and on both of these lists. Just because an item does not show up on one of these lists, does not make it a bad item to flip. There are other factors to consider.

When choosing an item or items, you want to buy whatever the GE buy limit is for max profit. If the buy limit is 8, buy 8. If the buy limit is 70, buy 70. Make sure you have enough cash for this. Unless the item is a high ticket, high risk item.

2 | Finding an item to flip

As stated above, you will want to use the resources from the first step to find a good item to flip. Once you start trying items, you will find ones that work well for you. You will want to make note of these items and flip them as much as possible.

Don't fight the trend; ride the wave.

When choosing an item or items, you want to buy whatever the GE limit is for max profit. If the limit is 8, buy 8. If the limit is 70, buy 70. Make sure you have enough cash for this. Unless the item is a high ticket, high risk item.

For this step, we will decide if the Amulet of Torture is a good item to flip.

Target Buy Price:
15,060,045gp

Target Sell Price:
15,264,029gp

Potential Profit:
203,984gp/ea
(before GE tax)

GE Buy Limit:
8 every 4 hours

After analyzing this item, the Amulet of Torture gives a large profit margin of 200k gp/ea. We must also take into account the GE buy limit against our cash stack. The buy limit is 8, so we are close to where we need to be.

We are using a 75M cash stack for this tutorial so we will flip 5 Amulet of Tortures.

3 | Buying the Item(s)

This step is pretty self-explanatory. You purchase the items at the prices listed on the Flipping Utilities listed above, or slightly above the prices listed like I do If profit margin allows.

Flipping Utilities will update the prices every 45 seconds as the price of the items move in real time. This means you may have to abort and replace buy/sell orders with adjusted prices while the price moves up or down. Some of my buy prices in my next screenshots may not match the prices in the screenshots above because of this. This is important to note.

*Note: I was going to do this tutorial with 100M cash stack and flip berserker rings as well since I normally have good luck with those. They took forever to buy so I only did the Tortures.

4 | Selling the Item(s)

Like above this step is pretty self-explanatory. You sell the items at the prices listed on the Flipping Utilities listed above, or slightly below the listed price if profit margin allows.

5 | Calculating Profit

Now that we have bought all of our items and sold them all, it is time to assess our profit. We can do this a number of ways. We can view our history at grand exchange and calculate our profit manually.

Luckily, Flipping Utilities has a profit calculator built in for us. We may choose to see our profit from our current session, past 1Hour, past 4Hours, past 12Hours, past 1Day, past 1Week, past 1Month, and all time. Screenshots of our Grand Exchange History and Flipping Utilities session profit for this tutorial are below.

As you can see, flipping these 5 Amulet of Tortures for 75M net us 369.7k gp profit in just 16 minutes.

If we continued this trend, we would be an estimated 1.384M gp/hr

6 | Cheaper Items to Flip

I realize not everyone has the kind of money to flip Tortures. Weapons, runes, staves, bows, food, etc. are generally good items to flip. I like to stick more towards weapons myself. Rune/Dragon/Granite items usually have a decent profit margin and buy/sell rather quickly.

  • Rune Scimitar
  • Rune 2h Sword
  • Rune Platebody/Platelegs
  • Any Guthix/Saradomin/Zamorak/etc armour
  • Dragon Scimitar
  • Dragon 2h Sword
  • Dragon Platebody/Platelegs/Chainbody
  • Abyssal Whip/Dagger
  • Granite Maul
  • Amulet of Fury (This one is hit or miss. Very risky.)
  • Berserker Ring (one of my favorites)

Thank you for the detailed tutorial on OSRS flipping!

I'd like to include that if you would like to watch quality videos on the subject, Check out FlippingOldschool on YouTube. He posts updates on market trends and shows fist hand experience in the flipping world. Very in-depth and entertaining videos.

Personally, I have not played since Fresh Start World, but flipping was always a good money maker when I was needed a break from real content.

Thank you for these resources, I was missing the Runelite plugin for the GE. Not that I really NEED to make the money but it sure is nice knowing the instant buy and sell prices of most items!

Even some in-game settings and little tips and tricks would make for a pretty solid read. I think i was around 95 ranged before i knew you could talk to the archer tutor in Lumbridge to auto-equip arrows that you pick up rather it going into your inventory.

Or even pretty common ones that new players might not know like Wilderness slayer giving more points or the optimal quest guide
