Anime wroteTaigaAisaka wroteTTG wroteAnime wroteAhri wroteTaigaAisaka wroteGary wrote The PC Gaming show is usually lackluster every year. Can't say I have much hope for the show this year unless GabeN shows up and reveals Portal 3. Ehhhh, not really. It may seem that way, but it's because when a game goes to Epic, there's an immediate uproar. I would argue 99% of games go to Steam -- this past week May 12th through May 19th, 408 new games have been released on Steam and yes, most of them are Indie games or just absolute low quality that is meant for a cash grab, but still, a lot of devs/studios still go over to Steam. Epic getting games first causes immediate backlash, which makes it seem like all these devs are leaving Steam for Epic, when it's a really small amount - at least so far - but it's bigger named titles which people blow out of proportion about it being the end of the world. Steam/Valve/GabeN could kill this whole conflict with Epic games if they matched the 88% revenue share off the bat instead of the whole tier thing they do and this thing would legit just be gone because Epic would not be able to afford raising the revenue share any higher without having to jack up the prices in general, which would turn more people away. On top of that, I really don't see it going on for too long. Sure, the devs who go over to Epic get an immediate amount of money if they're a timed exclusive or full exclusive and they get the better revenue share, but, I feel like their sales aren't as hot as they would be if over on Steam. For one, piracy has definitely gone up a lot more on those games, especially Metro Exodus and I assume Borderlands 3 will take it's place. People really didn't talk about them going to pirate a game, unless you went digging for areas where people would talk about those things, but now on Reddit, people talking about pirating games on Epic has bled into just regular gaming and PC forums -- it got so bad that the Metro subreddit flat out banned any talk about it and Epic games in general because people were just spamming the boards with it. Secondly, Steam Trading cards. Now, these are very arbitrary to some people, some people might not care about their Steam Level, badges or backgrounds and emotes; however, the people who do, typically will spend money buying trading cards, the only way to get cards is to buy the game and get the card drops which gives money to the studio/company, hope you get lucky with booster packs dropping at random for you, which is just free or going out and buying the trading cards from the Steam Marketplace which gives the seller and the studio a very small percent of money. While that money may be small, I would argue there's enough in there to actually be quite a substantial amount to anyone on the outside -- which Epic games doesn't offer and that's lost revenue for the studio. Eventually, I think someone, be it someone on the outside or someone at a gaming company will do the calculations and see where money may have either been gained or lost and things will adjust accordingly per dev/studio. |

TaigaAisaka wrote You seem to have a fair point I'd say. I do like the Steam badges but some seem really hard to get. I do like that Epic has the sims tho I use to play the Sims 4 a lot and there a big part of Epic. Maybe steam is going down hill? |

TaigaAisaka wrote The only reason Epic gets these exclusives is because they pay better than Steam, the UI on Epic is not that great. Steam is actually efficient and makes sense, Epic barely made the come up and copied Steam. You can see they even have to explain themselves in tweets and say they didn't try to copy. But if Fortnite wasn't a thing the wouldn't have a place in the industry. They also copied Apex because there fanbase was dying at that time. |

TTG wroteTaigaAisaka wrote Fortnite spearheaded them up, but Epic had a huge place in the industry because they own the Unreal Engine, which a lot of companies use and they always get a cut from licensing fees. Epic honestly shot themselves in the foot because the storefront needed to be finished before they actually started going after Steam. Yes, Steam when it first launched was very barebones, very lackluster, but Steam basically laid the grown works of what a new storefront should be and I honestly believe if Epic has done that, this whole Steam v Epic wouldn't be this big. The main thing Epic needs to fix now, is security because people get hacked constantly even with 2 factor authentication and people also have a bunch of attempted logins from users just trying to get into random people's accounts. |

TaigaAisaka wroteTTG wroteTaigaAisaka wrote Really people trying to still get in to accounts. Why people why? I mean yes there are many different reasons why but so not worth it. They need a good security to put in place then. |

Anime wroteTaigaAisaka wroteTTG wroteTaigaAisaka wrote Main reason would be to steal a person's credit card info if they can. I have no idea how Epic encrypts their data, if they do at all, but if you go looking, you'll see just how much people are able to access or very closely attempt to access into other people's Epic accounts, even with 2FA on, which should never happen. There are seriously subreddits dedicated to people asking about how they got hacked/account was attempted and people in general unhappy with Epic's security. Epic did state they were going to fix this or roll out better security, but to me, they should have at least had that done -- forget everything else in a storefront to try and compete with Steam, get their security correct before doing this whole competition with Steam. On top of that, Epic's customer support is veryyyyyyyyy bad, Steam has in the recent years been fixing their customer support, but not very long ago, they were at where Epic is currently at, with very long response times for something so simple, which only further becomes a worry if your account is stolen. |

Steam has been going downhill but I think we all enjoy it so much cause it's been the main platform
That we probably won't ever delete it for good or just stop using it |

Petite wrote Steam has been going downhill but I think we all enjoy it so much cause it's been the main platform Actually, I would disagree with Steam going downhill. On April 30th, it was reported Steam has 1 billion accounts created with 90 million active users within that month. It seems they've gone up because I believe back in November or December of 2018, they had 47 million active users that month. |
