I think tipping is an extremely crude way of shorting your workers especially if a company then splits the tips at the end of the shift. I will only tip if its a pathetic amount meaning I will be left with coppers (small change) or if they have performed a miracle in front of my eyes.

Damn u lucky bro. Your countries' minimum wage gets reviewed every April. Minimum wage in the USA has been $7.25 since 2009 and $7.25 here is equivalent to the apprentice wages in the U.K. Since the cost of living is insane now. ($7 for a gallon of milk) I live in a cheap part of the country and housing is $1000 a month on average for a 1 bedroom apartment. rip.
I agree. Minimum wage in the US blows. Plus, the living expenses for being in a college town in ridiculous but what can ya do. Gotta live somewhere besides the dorms
That's how I think of it.
so you believe that someone can't gain a large amount of experience in a simple business in around 6 months to a year?

I leave a tip at a restaurant, when I get a haircut and when I get pizza delivered.
Usually about 5 or so for the restaurant and pizza depending on the quality of service.
Now for the haircut I give a bit more.

I always try to tip. Assuming a normal restaurant at $15-20 per plate I'll tip $5. If the waiter / waitress is very personable and keeps our drinks full and makes sure we are fully taken care of , I'll usually tip $20.
One thing I always do is pay for my meal with my card but I never put the tip on there. I always write "taxation is theft- $0.00" and give the tip in cash. People don't realize that in the US most servers don't even make minimum wage and most of their wage comes from tips which is taxed if you write how much you tip them. Some establishments actually add up everyone's tips and gives them out evenly or based on who ever made the most money / waited the most tables.

Minimum wage is for unskilled labor. Look at my beautiful city of Seattle for example. Some liberal yuppie millennial nimwits decided that we're going to have a $15 min wage! So now me, the guy that works at a skilled job and worked his way up gets screwed. My current full time job pays $16/hr so I will make just over min wage. My part time job is $24.55/hr which is good, however now in WA they got a 50% wage increase for min wage, but me as the skilled laborer didn't get that. But guess what, since they get more, Mcdonalds charges more for a burger, and stores charge more for milk. The min wage workers will be in the same spot they are at but they destroy the middle class, and since companies can't afford that stupid rate now when I go into Mcdonalds I order from a computer... This is why America is falling apart.

I've never tipped, it's really uncommon in the UK to tip somebody.
