To be honest, I wouldnt let anyone discourage you going to college, if its what you want to do go for it. But I would definitely do something youre good at and know there is a huge market for, because if you go to college for something that no jobs are available for it would be bad.

If it was me I'd work my way up.
But it's your life so do what's going to make you happy and successful.

If you're happy in job you can get without uni then stick with the job, if you drop out simply because a job is a job go to uni and work towards something you enjoy

TehoneDesign wrote Hey Guys, hope you all are well.

A question stumbled into my head which got me thinking

That is, is it better to get a job in food or retail and work your way up?
Or go to University. with fees getting more and more expensive ... is it worth it?

Has anyone made their decision and what is it or plan to do? would love to see.

Well depends if your financially able to go to College then i would reccomend going however if you arent and you know that you would have to take out loans even on the first payment i would recommend try working yourself up in some kind of local company, Goodluck Man hope the best.

Depends what you would study at University.

Most degrees aren't that intensive, I'm only in 3 times a week for 9 hours worth of lectures so i have plenty of time to work, socialise etc.. However, if you did something science or medical related, it would be very intensive and life would likely cease outside of university.

Most people I know on my course (Criminology) have full time jobs. Some work in pubs/bars, some work in places like Subway, others work in retail areas and I believe there's a couple of the older students who work within rehabilitation/child care too.

University isn't like College. It isn't mandatory to turn up to every lecture but it's your loss if you don't. Lecturers are generally quite understanding and accepting of people having full time jobs too so it's not too big an issue.

It would be quite easy to hold a job in the food or retail sector whilst attending University.

University fee's shouldn't be worried about either. Most people don't pay off their debt and it's not the 'debt' most people immediately think of. You pay it back, but only after you're earning £21,000+ and even then it's £900 repayments per year, max. Nobody will come to your house and break your legs if you don't pay off the debt after 5 years. The effect it has on peoples lives tends to be minimal.

As of now, I'm waiting to move to my college to get a job as it's fn far from where I live. I've seen friends be successful without college/uni, but it all depends I suppose.
