Hey Guys, hope you all are well.

A question stumbled into my head which got me thinking

That is, is it better to get a job in food or retail and work your way up?
Or go to University. with fees getting more and more expensive ... is it worth it?

Has anyone made their decision and what is it or plan to do? would love to see.

Trade over going to college/university any day. That's just my personal opinion though but usually people tend to have more fun with trades and its way less on student bills.

In my opinion, I have seen most of my mates go to university, only to leave and get a job getting minimum wage, one of my friends now works in Mc Donalds. Not only that he now owe's something like £20k to the university which he now has to pay off for god knows how long. I mean these are just my mates lol, so if you do decide to go university make sure you stick with it and go find your dream job, you have studied hard for. For me, I have ADHD, so I did crap in school and didn't even finish my GCSE's, didn't go college or university. I decided I wanted to do security and been doing it for 6 years now and worked my way up to being a security supervisor for film studios, I have 9 other security guard's that work for me. I'm now earning anything from £600 to £800 a week, but in the quiet periods I can get a little less, but still, I have done better than all my friends and earning more money than them, all part from one who is an estate agent for Simons Estates, he is now rich. So I mean it did work out for me, but it's up to you at end of day.

Trade as in a jobs like plummer, electrician, mechanic. Jobs where you have to apprentice under a master of the trade!

Well, the only problem I find with giving you an answer is you haven't stated what you want to do with you life.

What are you wanting to do later on, whats your passion, what do you see yourself loving as a job?

I for one avoided uni and went to college to do electrical and electronic engineering. Once I got out I found it hard to find work and ended up in retail, after working my way up to managers positions and area managers positions I can honestly say retail is a very required taste.
I for one hate people in general and gained many different anger issues due to it. After leaving due to terrible pay for high up jobs I moved onto office jobs, this is a different type of horror.

Now if I had figured out what I wanted to do before and decided to go to UNI (I wish I had of done now) I could be looking at doing a job I actually enjoy.

The main issue you'll find when searching for jobs is that a lot require uni degrees etc.

If you can tell me what your ambitions etc are I can try and help you out, without any inclination of knowing what you want to do, it's a decision which can't be made.

Feel free to reply what you'd like to do and I can try break it down and make it easier for you after that.

I personally went to a Community College for a few semesters and said **** it. I'm now working at a Little Cheesers. Been there for a year now since grand opening.

But I'm going back to school so I can make a career out of something.

That's what you have to think. Do you want a job, or a career?

Very largely depends on what you want to get into. I guarantee you that things aren't as easy as "moving up" and very often people hit a bamboo ceiling (with many not even making it as far as supervisor/manager).

A good option is to work full time & study part time if you have the stomach for it.
