It really doesn't bother me at all. I remember the first time I played Dead Island on the Xbox 360, I remember going out of my way to select the female character, even though there was two males to be selected as well. Everyone obviously selected to be the male when you went on multiplayer, because he looked like a thug and gamers wanted to seem cool.

Also, if I recall correctly, I selected a female character on Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Although I didn't play it for long because it wasn't my cup of tea, I still selected the female character with the bow and arrow. At the end of the day, the gender of my character doesn't bother me at all. Sometimes you will find that the female characters in games have better stats and features.
