They know you're only doing it for the money.

What they want is for you to demonstrate some level of ownership and responsibility for your job, so that they don't waste time and money training you only for you to quit or get fired two weeks later.

Yeah I understand where you're coming from, but the most important thing you want to support is that you care about the job and not to think about the money and don't care about your job. One of he main things I see is when people hate their job but they want the money. Whenever they say "why do you want the job" - Just say what you want to do to make the business stronger. Say about the interests you got well as your knowledge.

They want to hire those who have ambition to work and not those who are only there to scrape by for a paycheck.

I agree, even when going into a company you went to college for they ask you why you want this job.. its like obviously I went to school for this and this is the field I want to work in. But also everyone wants money haha who wouldn't.

That'll help determine if it'll be worth them hiring you.. if you just want a job for the money, and show no compassion for the job, then what's the point in them hiring you? They want you to show genuine interest in the job you are applying for so they know that you're worth hiring.

If your job is a job anyone can do, then it is okay for you to say because you really the job or money.

However, once you interview for a job that requires a specific skill, then you should NEVER answer for the money.

Companies that want to hire you ask this because they are looking for what you will bring to the company. If you are applying for a job like "Global Strategist of Nintendo", then you should be saying how and why you want to improve this company. A large part of getting a "career" job to your employer is how you want to work with that company. As a member of the company, they want to see that you care and that everyday, you are striving to not only build yourself, but also the company.

That is why they ask that.

its more relevant in a career when youre switching jobs, why do you want to work for US and not the place across the street. However in low level jobs its just dumb and even out of college most people I know are looking for their first real job and they ask us this but the real answer is we'll take pretty much anything.

I believe they say it not just to show character, let alone not wasting there time/money on someone who'd give up or just not turn up one day.

I think it's a good question, which needs a decent response. Especially if you want the job.
