I think it depends on the person playing it and their mental age and/or mental stability. If a person has a problem distinguishing reality from fantasy, to the point that they would mimic something in fantasy, then I believe the argument that a video game made them violent; however it would have to be in context that they weren't mentally grown up or they suffered a mental issue that they didn't know what was right in the real world and acted out what they saw in a fantasy world as that was "the right thing to do." In example, the objective in a war game is to kill people, if a person can't distinguish reality from fantasy, they may think that their new found objective, is to do what the game is telling them; even though it is in the real world. Other than that, I don't believe violent video games will make some person playing them, suddenly get the urge to go on a killing spree or anything like that, unless they aren't mentally old enough or simply have some sort of mental illness that hinders their perspective form reality and fantasy. The only thing I really think violent video games and even violent movies do, is slowly start to numb a person to the fact of violence and death, more easily if violence or death happens upon a person they don't know.

Absolutely not. The parents raising them cause children to be violent.

I think it falls in line more with fantasy.

If it did cause somebody to be violent then that person clearly didn't understand the difference between real life and a video game

I played violent games since I was a little boy.
I used to play games like GTA, Arma and Call of Duty on my dad's PC back then and grew up with it.
This only had a positive influence on me, so it really depends on how much you play it and how bad/good your fantasy is.

There are some tests that prove playing particular games from a young age can only improve things, whether it's right or not.

Those of you down voting my comment, if behaviours were not influenced by video games why would there be age restrictions still? Maybe understandable for nudity however violence, in the U.K. Games with guns are regulated to 16/18 however if this in no way influenced a child to act in a violent or aggressive manner why would they be unable to play the game at 4, 7, 12 years of age? Countless articles and psychologists express sincere concern for young children playing violent games because it is genuine and a common occurance. The American Psychological Assosciation, the American Academy of Pediatrics ALL conduct psychology experiments to establish links...

The American Psychological Association observed in an August 2015 policy statement (PDF) that research demonstrated a link "between violent video game use and both increases in aggressive behavior ... and decreases in prosocial behavior, empathy, and moral engagement."

These people are paid mass sums to conduct accurate tests on large amounts of people to create links. They cannot lie for the sake of fear mongering the public as they are done countless times and compared with other sources. To whoever believes there is ZERO connotation between video games and violent behaviour in children you are blinded by what you want to think. I'm sure there are countless more reliable sources stating the exact same, yes it can be influenced by parents decisions but it is no entirely parents blames, video games have just the same role of influencing violent behaviour as parents.

I think it gives some people ideas that they may want to try to carry out later. I don't think that is the case for most people, but I do think it does happen.

I did hear that the game Grand Theft Auto 5 - do make people violet for a great example. They do it in reality which is a crazy thing to hear about on the news.
