Graphics King is rarely awarded to those who consistently create professional content within the Graphics section, but honestly there is only 2-3 users who don't currently have the badge who create good quality work to be worthy of it. As for the reason Illustrated lost his badge, I am pretty sure it is not because of the outcome of a Graphics contest, more likely down to a similar reason as to why previous users with the badge lost it. But let's leave that at that.

The other special badges do indeed get given out the way they should, they are awarded to loyal, high quality members of the site; perhaps once every 4-6 months? There are also contests for the badges which 99.99% of the time are well received by the user-base as it gives everyone an equal opportunity to earn something special.
Yes the special badges are on occasion given to good friends of the staff of TTG, but you know so what? At the end of the day it is just a clump of pixels on the screen.

Overall the amount of badges that are awarded to users over the year, in my opinion is rather fair seeing as are considered somewhat of a prestigious award/achievement. If the staff went on to simply churn out the badges like a factory it would devalue the badges and then eventually there wouldn't be much point in them.

to be fair everyone jumps on people who are in the shoutbox when it comes to special badges but

1. How many people do you actually know in the shoutbox who actually have a special badge bar ex staff and people like saki/thespian who got theirs for reasons that have nothing to do with the shoutbox

and

2. its a badge, a few pixels on a screen that might every now and then impress a few 12 year olds

Oh no! Haha. Its only members sharing opinions. Nothing to worry about

There's no issues here, though there is a tad amount pointless arguing. You can have what ever opinion you want on how badges are given out and are removed, but there is speculation in your post on peoples badges being removed

See the FAQ's and you'll find:

Members may be awarded another badge such as Awesome, Wizard, or Ninja at Administrator discretion. Members can be awarded these special badges based upon their contributions to the community. Members who regularly post quality and helpful posts can get recognized by staff members, which can ultimately lead to being awarded with a special badge.

There are no special powers, no special privileges, and no special accesses that come with this badge. This is just a way for you to stand out from the rest of the members as a "Top Quality" member who contributes continually and does it just because he cares about the community.

If you are awarded with a special badge, you are expected to conduct yourself professionally. Flaming, spamming, harassment, etc. will not be tolerated and will lose the badge for you instantly.

Members who wear special badges awarded by the staff are considered to be very special members of the community and are supposed to be looked at as role model members and will be held to very high expectations.

Another point you brought up is if someone is award a badge and they are no longer active as they could be that makes it unfair? Its not right to remove a badge from someone that was a good member cause they don't sign in.

Most of the badge holders are ex-staff and their special badges will be replaced with retired mod come v5 so that will lower the amount of badge holders dramatically.

Honestly I think it's fine if inactive individuals are left to keep their badges, they did something to earn them in the past, and I think it's fine if they are left to themselves. As for the Graphics King thing, I can't say much aside from I'm sure there was a reason. I don't really understand the hate for people with special badges. Everyone with one did something, whether it was win a contest, make useful posts, or just be all around great members.

The badges are 90% of the time given to ex-staff or people who have won contests that gave out badges. All other cases received the badges based on extraordinary work as a member. Thespian got 1000000 badges in under a year, and that means he's a suck up to staff? Greg has had multiple stickies and helped out around the JTAG/RGH forum for a while and is literally never in the SB.

The SB gets a ton of hate, but in reality, the people who are usually there don't have special badges, and are just there to hang out and talk to other members. I wasn't really involved in the SB until only a few months ago, and I've made more friends on TTG in those few months than the entire time I've been on TTG. The SB really doesn't deserve the hate it gets.

I appreciated your consideration of why i do not have a Awesome badge but honestly this tops any badge of all when the Big Boss man recognizes what accomplishments you have done for the site and replys with a comment like this , I felt speechless for words
Post #61 Shows i am well respected by the Boss! No badge can top his words!
they did something to earn them in the past
Failed the quote ting, he said "they did something to earn them in the past "

That in some cases is all true, but about 20-30% of the people with special badges haven't done much, like that BetterCallSaul guy, he has 26 posts?

You can't tell me he has made 26 posts that are so helpful he had been given the badge?

The thing with special badges is that there's nothing you can do specifically to get one. Graphics King is similarly obtained as the Awesome, Ninja or Wizard badge, as there is no definite way to receive it. (If an admin thinks you deserve it you'll get it)

"discretion of the Administration", that's the key. It all comes down to administrators and whether or not they feel that a member is deserving of a special badge. Whether that member frequents the Shoutbox, posts a lot in a specific forum or gives back to the community is irrelevant. Those badges are given out on the basis that someone on the administration team feels you deserve it. Is it cool to have a special badge? Of course, but it doesn't make you any better than anyone else. If you feel someone in the graphics forum puts out higher quality work than someone else, that's fine. You didn't need a badge under their name to tell you that. You don't get any special privileges with a special badge, and you have to follow the same rules as everyone else. It's something extra that's nice to have. With that in mind, I don't see anything unfair with how badges are given out. I know I probably seem biased as hell speaking about special badges when I have one myself, but I know what it's like to have one and believe me when I say TTG is exactly the same as when I didn't have anything special under my name.

Unless something changes in V5 that gives special badge users extra site abilities (which I highly doubt will happen), I think it's safe to say there's wrong with how badges are given out now.

@Naggy _ I was NOT the one that said remove badges..because yes, that would be unfair. This is everyone just sharing there own opinions. Not once have i said REMOVE the badges.
(Just thought id let you know that )
