So I'm 17, I have just passed my test and I want to buy a car.
The car in which I buy is going to be brand-new; I have around £14-18k to spend on it
I want something which both looks nice and the insurance won't be stupidly high so therefore not a very powerful engine.
I was thinking a mini, but some people say it's a hairdressers car.
Anyone got any other suggestions?

Not sure what all is going to be available in the UK, but if they have a similar selection as the US, go for a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord or something similar. Good on gas, and not going to be very high on insurance. (I could have named 2 cars that you would have no access to, if I did, I apologize lol)

Do not let anyone tell you a mini isn't an option... they are dope af. I personally drive a 2014 ford mustang with a v6 engine and my insurance is not terrible. I have owned a 2009 350z, 2002 ford focus, and a 2014 mustang and my insurance didn't fluctuate more than $20 (idk how much it will change using Euro's) a month changing my cars. I am also your age so, with a good insurance company expect $200 (again not sure euro to dollar amount) a month if you have good grades and are responsible. A mini would be sweet but honestly get whatever you want. You are the one driving it:D

If you have that money I'd say just buy a shitty car as your first!

A little runner round car like a Citroen Saxo would be proper for your first, then you can keep saving/earning your money, and then buy a nice spanking new car when your fully confident in driving!

A Saxo would be cheap as chips with that money!

Firstly, I wouldn't spend that amount of money on a first car.. But if you've got the money, why not

Also I had a Mini for my instructors car. It's such a fun little thing but also quite powerful (I had the diesel version). You shouldn't listen to what others have to say, if you want it get it. Either way it is a really good car for a first car, people will be jealous once you have it.

I`m not a fan of mini`s, but I would recommend just getting a cheap car >£3000, and then save for something like a nice Mercedez, or BMW as a second car

Vw golf are decent if you want to get them tuned up and that,
14-18K you could get a second hand subaru 2009 issue sti wrx impreza with turbo at around 2500-3000rpm with high wing.
My choice would be to get a classic. For example [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

You are learning to drive, don't spend all your money. Get a beater car that will take you from point A to point B, so when you do wreck it you can afford to repair it.

Also, don't worry about what others think of your car. You are buying your car for you, not them.
