Don't want to pay too much for insurance and I'm not going to have a "black box" when I have a car either

Ew French shit boxes.

I tried to insure a mk2 when I first started and it was ridiculously high. If you can get it I'd say go for it! If not go for a lupo... their cheap to buy and not too bad on insurance can also look good if you decided to modify.

EDIT: Good luck without a black box, It brings insurance down by mass amounts sometimes even thousands. Just wrap foil around it.. stops it from sending signals back to HQ...

But what could the consequences be if you stopped the signals going out ?

If they found out you were tampering with the device it would void your insurance.

Currently I have a 1.2 Corsa and it's dead cheap to insure. I insure it through my dad who has ~20 years of experience and it's only 40 quid a month. Really not bad considering I just got my provisional. Stick to 1.2's and you'll be all good.
