Asymmetrical wrote When you get a console it will last you 8 years maybe with a HDD upgrade (if needed) plumbed into your TV

By going on the last gen of consoles, they lasted what, 4 years if that before the RROD/YLOD

By the sounds of it, even Microsoft & Sony are planning to bring out another console soon as they also dont think that they are strong enough.

Asymmetrical wrote A PC Built for gaming will last much less and Your monitor...is just a monitor.

A PC can last as long as you want it to. Lets face it, previous gen games where limited by the last gen consoles power.

This dont happen on the PC platform but you can either: Turn down some settings or play older games. This will allow you to make your PC "last" longer which is pretty much what the devs done on console. Look at GTA 5 for example. And that is the current gen...

Asymmetrical wrote A console is more compact and easier to fit into a lifestyle.

There are PC's the size of your hand. Search Gigabyte Brix

Asymmetrical wrote A PC is much bigger and you dont really plonk it next to your TV.

You can if your smart. Or, you place it in a cabinet. + not really valid as you dont really game in your front room, or aleast I dont. Most have it in thier rooms.

Asymmetrical wrote Your weak argument is simply against cost.

Not going to disagree with that

Asymmetrical wrote Hardcore Gamers are not just PC based anymore, times have changed.

Entirely opinionable

Xiggy, your entire post is irrelevant if you look at his other posts. I also love how they're all disagreeing with you Asy... and not me.

They can disagree all they like

I think they are reading just that post and possibly not the rest to see my reasoning.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion based on knowledge of the information or not. But still, why no hate for me?

Asymmetrical wrote New games old PC argument -
The console still comes out on top and 8 year console will do better than the 8 year old PC. Im talking money for money and no upgrades.
How will the console come out on top if the PC had better hardware? I never said anything about upgrading. And for the money; The PC will come out to be cheaper in the long run since games are much more cheaper and you don't have to pay for membership. You would pay $400 on membership for those 8 years; and let's say you buy 10 games every year for 8 years, that would be $4,800 ($60 each) on consoles and on PC it would be $3,200($40 each).
Asymmetrical wrote Size -
Mini-ITX and HTPCs are great for what they do.
Have a look through our build section. Anyone building a gaming system is not recommended one.
Although I had forgotten about the HTPC's which are great these days and can hold some top gear, so yes I do concede to that one.
Is not that is not recommended, is just more of a luxury. (Limited HDD's, only one PCIe and limited RAM capacity.) Nothing that a gamer should worry about.
