By going on the last gen of consoles, they lasted what, 4 years if that before the RROD/YLOD

This dont happen on the PC platform but you can either: Turn down some settings or play older games. This will allow you to make your PC "last" longer which is pretty much what the devs done on console. Look at GTA 5 for example. And that is the current gen...

You will find intial posts/reponses get the most of the thumb usage. Then they just read the rest

How will the console come out on top if the PC had better hardware? I never said anything about upgrading. And for the money; The PC will come out to be cheaper in the long run since games are much more cheaper and you don't have to pay for membership. You would pay $400 on membership for those 8 years; and let's say you buy 10 games every year for 8 years, that would be $4,800 ($60 each) on consoles and on PC it would be $3,200($40 each).

Although I had forgotten about the HTPC's which are great these days and can hold some top gear, so yes I do concede to that one.

Is not that is not recommended, is just more of a luxury. (Limited HDD's, only one PCIe and limited RAM capacity.) Nothing that a gamer should worry about.
