It's pretty disappointing that you think this way. But who am I to judge?
You didn't know about ALS until the challenge started up, and now you do, some people don't have the ability to donate, and if you yourself didn't even donate what makes it okay for you to get mad at people who didn't? Exactly, it's hypocritical. This rant is really unnecessary IMO. Because just think, without the challenge, they wouldn't have raised half the money that they did now. It's also for a good cause, (reiterating what some other people said) the challenge can be fun, and nominating people raises even more awareness.

How in what way is that begging for attention? All it's doing is raising awareness whilst having fun doing it. This is a really pointless rant to be honest.

So you really dislike that there was 22 million dollars raised for a good cause? That's quite selfish if you ask me.

I think it's cool that people are doing it either way.
You can do just the bucket, which causes others
to hear about it. If the first person can't donate,
it's fine because they're still passing it on to people
and it's just getting more awareness and raising a lot of money...

It has raised awareness which was a success. Donating is an option but because of the publicity celebs have donated millions together + people are donating just not everyone.

I agree with this. Way too many people are doing it just to do it!
But by them just doing it, that in itself is good.
They then nominate 2, 3 maybe more people.
If even 1 of those donates, its more than would have donated if the person had not done the challenge.
I think this is when Social Media comes into its own.
Comic Relief and other such events which are televised each year in individual countries can only reach so many people.
The ability to spread the word of a certain charity like this is what I think social media was made for.
Its great hearing that [insert name] waited 15 minutes to get a coffee that sets them up for work, or {insert name] is currently sat watching something.
BUT
Its even better to see the screenshots people are posting to prove they have donated as there are so many people that like to piss on the popularity of a good cause.
I have done the challenge, I have nominated and I also asked the people I nominated to show proof they had, which they did.
So between me and the 4 people I nominated we raised 50 GBP, we are 5 little people.
I hope each of those nominated 3 or more people and so on to create a pyramid of donations.
Science has done so much to help us where our own bodies fail.
Money is short for them now, why not use what we have to get more to some day help the people that cant lift a bucket, type a status or even move without severe agony?

I don't know if someone has already said this, but the idea of the ice water is to simulate the feeling of actually having ALS.
Maybe people do donate, they just don't brag about it. I did it, donated 50 pounds but I don't feel the need to say in the video that I donated.
Look at Vanoss, he donated $1000 to ALSA and Charity Water. And you're saying this isn't helping...

It would be different if someone in your family or one of your friends had the disease. You need to sympathise man and stop being narrow minded.
