Hello Tech Game users, Astromods here and I am posting in the rant section because I want to get this out there and this is a way of venting about something that is trending globally, and at the same time should be talked about.

After reading my views on The Ice Bucket Challenge, please feel free to post yours. I may or may not agree with you, but hey, this is a civil discussion.

My View:

I really dislike the idea of the challenge being in our social media. The only reason is, is that many people are doing it just to do it, and not donating like they should be. Now, I am not opposed to donating, I am pretty financially unstable, but hey, who isn't nowadays. If I were to get nominated for this challenge, I would do my best to donate, but I would not dump a bucket of cold water over my head and record it, I am not begging for attention with a stupid video like that.

Thanks for reading my view, now let's hear yours!

Its just for fun to dump a bucket of water over your head. Also, this challenge has raised a ton of awareness for the ALS foundation as I heard they raised something crazy like 22 million dollars in the last month from all of this.

I know not everybody is in the same financial situation and maybe cant donate as much money, but every dollar helps. I personally did it and also donated 100$ to the foundation.

True, but don't you find it annoying how so many people are doing it just to do it now? I mean raising money for it is all fine and dandy, but why do it and not donate? Watching these videos it becomes painfully obvious who is doing it for money and who isnt.

The point of it is to raise awareness of ALS. That fact that you are talking about it means it's working, you are aware of it. So no, I don't see anything wrong with the ice bucket challenge. It's supposed to be if you do the ice bucket, you don't have to pay but it still raises awareness upon others who will/can donate. Not everyone can afford to donate so the ice bucket is a great alternative for those who do not have the money but can still help in a way that doesn't involve money.

The ice bucket also just isn't for fun, it's to simulate a feeling that those with ALS constantly feel.

lolwat?

Please tell me how you know who is and who isn't donating. "It's painfully obvious" isn't a good response.
I could say it's painfully obvious that fairies live in my garden.

I agree with you, people should do it and donate, but I'm not presuming to know who is and who isn't donating or in what quantities because you cannot know that information.

While you might be fooled into believing it's all real because of the various [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] , [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] , and [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] ... it's all just a big scam.

In fact, why stop there? ALS doesn't even exist. All the people who have it are just possessed by the devil [and/or aliens.]

Joseph got it EXACTLY right. Think of how many people had no idea what ALS was, but they do now.

Even if people don't donate, they're still making others aware, and challenging others who may donate, its all just a bit of fun while raising money and awareness for ALS.

Its a shame Macmillian 'copied' the idea of the icebucketchallenge, but at least its for a good cause!
