I have no idea why people do it, if someone calls it me I just say "So what if I'm gay, it's not an insult is it?" but I'm not gay so people realize that they are acting like an ass.

I used to use it as an insult, a lot - however I was 12 at the time. 5 years later I understand the meaning of it, and how it actually affects people by calling them a gay or other words of similar/same meaning if they're genuinely struggling with their sexuality.

I look back now and I do ask myself why I used to say it. Honestly? I don't really know. Everyone used to say it - just kids being kids really. I'm not homophobic one bit, yet I bet I appeared to be as a child of that age. I soon grew out of it.

Some of the reason people use "Gay" as an insult is because a lot of people have heard back in Biblical times that if you were "Gay" you would be stoned to death and an outcast. So basing it off that I can see why people say "Gay" as an insult. I myself am completely against "Gays" which I know a lot of people will Flame me for it but it is what it is.

It's a guy thing. If a guy friend wants to (jokingly) insult another guy friend then he would use the word gay, *** or f*ggot. I don't like the idea of gay people, but as long as they don't mess with me then I'm OK.

I think people are to uptight about it. Like my friends and I call each other "hicks" (which is kind of like a redneck) and it's the same exact concept. It's all out of joke. It's just like saying you throw like a girl.
