Very's Game Reviews!

For my first review it may not be the best standard, but I'm hoping they should get better within a few weeks, although some of the information may need correcting as I do struggle as I do have learning difficulties. So here goes my first, Black Ops 2 Review.

Call of duty's official website (which Black Ops 2 Is located, once age verification has been submitted)

General Information

  • Release Date:November 13th 2012
  • Publishers: Activision & Square Enix
  • Genre: First Person Shooter
  • Players: Varying game modes, from 3 vs 3 to 9 vs 9.
  • Platform: Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Windows & WiiU.

Gameplay/campign & Multiplayer:

In my honest opinion, I believe the campaign to Call of duty series has not really meant much to them. I was really hoping for a fantastic campaign mode last year, to be left with a boring story-line a pointless ending & not many options as usual. Although they did have a big bite back when they added back 'Call of Duty Zombies' again. It did shock me for how big the map is in comparison to Black Ops original & World at war zombies maps. After spending the first you weeks of multiplayer, it did seem to still be very dull & boring yet in a sense time consuming (addictive) as per usual. They have seemed to have over powered all the common weapons and under powered the rarely used ones. Please remember this is just my opinion, I have not fully researched into it. If I knew the game would be like this from the start, I would not have purchased it. Although the facts are true 'the graphics are very good, weapons are better' so on. I would not recommend it to any non-serious gamers. It is just not fun.

Weapons & Unlocks:

I must admit, the Weapons & Unlock system is nice & new! Finally Call of duty have come up with a better idea than before hand. There is more options such as new perks, weapon attachments etc. Although the system is good, it still is very boring & dull. If they could have spiced it up with a bit more 'intimidating' classes. Not undefeatable classes for lower ranks would've been a better idea, in my opinion they did not use us 'Serious gamers' much choices, as many of the others just didn't work for us. Everyone uses the same stuff which also effects the gameplay. Again after reviewing the weapons & unlocks system I still would not recommend to Non-serious gamers.

Weapons & Unlocks:

This is the part I actually enjoyed reviewing! As the maps on Black ops 2 are pretty much perfect. I have searched every spec on every single map, I have currently found ONE bad thing about them which is, head glitching. The graphics are immense which goes well with a good game (which can be quite rare) I love every single map, they so far have released 12 I believe new map packs? My favorite is still going to be Raid. Each map is perfectly sized so any type of weaponry you chose to use, even sniping is possible once again! I myself don't feel the need to 'Quickscope' But from time to time, I occasionally do. All the maps are so dynamic, there is almost hundreds of places you can survive easily on every map. Although then again, their is always a way you can die. My favorite part about the maps, dare I say it you cannot really 'camp' for very long because like I said surviving in small maps like Raid or the new map Dig. This would be the only reason why I would recommend to serious gamers, as some like to try really hard & succeed.

Controls:

As per usual Black Ops 2 have stuck to their original (A, Jump, B, Prone, X, Reload, Y, Switch weapon Left thumbstick movement of the body position right thumbstick movement of aiming sites/arms. L3 Knife LB, Secondary e.g stun grenades, RB, Primary e.g. Grenade, semtex, RT, Shoot, LT, Aim down site (ADS). & Once again you can chose to customize these by navigating through the options menu, either in game of main menu.) I actually like it they original way as after years of experience, you get used to it.

Conclusion

  • My Overall Rating:4/10
  • Graphics:6/10
  • Gameplay:5/10
  • Controls:6/10
  • Weapons / Unlocks:6/10
  • Maps:7/10

Gameplay
Game play suffers from various things like the CPU players drifting off their man on defense and leaving him open for a shot, setting horrible picks, or not reacting at all, and on my player mode CPU player tend to throw horrible alley-oops and non 3-point shooters, like Andris Biedrins or Shaquill O'Neal, shoot 3-Pointers making for lost possession due to the stupid CPU player not giving the ball to the real 3-Point shooters. CPU also has a tendency to stand out of bounds which makes it hard to pass them the ball because if you do it will be a turnover. Another one that happens too often is when players like Centers and Power Forwards get in the post position and do not move at all and get called for the three seconds in the key. CPU players stall a lot too even on the 3-Point line.

Graphics

This game has great graphics but not excellent graphics because some people on the game do not look like themselves on their picture like Channing Frye, Nate Robinson, Retro Shaq and Retro Jason Kidd(both players are on the 90's All-Stars East and West Teams, but they look too old. Both Shaq and J-Kidd looked younger back in the 90's.)

Controls
Human players have most control over their player, but not full control. For example: sometimes when advancing to dunk or layup the player youre controlling sometimes stops and doesn't dunk or layup like he was supposed to do. When dribbling near the sideline when trying to move away from going out of bounds the players shuffle and go out of bounds. Another is the shoot to pass. Even with a player with a great passing ability like Steve Nash and Jason Kidd when you try to pass while pulling up for a shot the players pass usually goes way out of bounds, even down court passes always go way over the heads of even the tallest players like Yao Ming.

Ratings(Personal)

This game was good but it could have been better.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist

Game Information

Name: Splinter Cell: Blacklist
Genre: Action, Adventure
Release Date: August 20, 2013
Developers: Ubisoft
Publishers: Ubisoft
Age rating: 18+
Modes: Single Player and Multiplayer
Console(s): Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U

Synopsis

Splinter Cell: Blacklist makes it fun to fly solo, but it's when you join others that the stealth action really heats up.

Gameplay
The story is, unfortunately, nothing new. Sam Fisher is working somewhat outside the normal chain of command in the US government and he is forced to jump into action as an unknown terrorist group begins to attack the US. The terrorists are played to be from the Middle East, but the game doesn't go so far as to say they are Muslim, a small comfort. The story continues as you might expect, no spoilers needed. While there were sections that you weren't permitted to be seen, the game never challenged you to a point where you couldn't find a rather easy way around it. The only parts of the game I had no luck in were the ones with the waves and waves of enemies. I tried that for a couple hours and gave up. The rest of the side missions were a lot of fun, but the sameness of it set in quickly.

Graphics

While all that seems nice, it really just has this tacky overcoat. Splinter Cell always has been a cheesy game to me. The A.I has always been really, really dumb, glitches are prevalent in every mission; levels are too contrived in terms of how they're carefully built around Sam Fisher's skills and abilities. The whole experience just seems funny to me, and not in a good way. Even just thinking about how half of the enemies in this game patrol their zones in the dark makes me giggle. Like, why would five guards patrol a basement in the dark? Why not just turn the lights on? How can you find anything walking around in the dark?

Controls

The controls are intuitive, though at times they can sometimes seems stuck or not responding if you're not standing at just the right angle. The game helps a lot, giving you on screen prompts at points when you need them most or will be distracted by them the most. In a way, you have to learn how to play the game and then you won't need the prompts at all.

MLB 13 The Show

Game Information

Name: MLB 13 The Show
Genre: Sports
Release Date: March 2013
Developers: SCE San Diego Studio
Publishers: Sony Computer Entertainment
Age rating: E
Modes: Single Player and Multiplayer
Console(s): PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita

Synopsis

Loosened-up hitting and subtle refinements make MLB 13: The Show another spectacular baseball game.

Gameplay

The gameplay and Franchise mode in this review is all I play. The biggest change to the gameplay I've experienced is the toned down difficulty in the lower difficulty levels (From Beginner to Veteran). This does not mean that the game has been "Call of Dutied" just to appease newcomers. It's just a way to ease new players in to the game and learn all the controls and enjoy the game while doing so. The difficulty spikes at All-Star and beyond for veteran Show players, so no need to worry about the game being too easy for you. A new throwing meter has been added to the game and I feel like this option was sort of tacked on. The speed of the meter is appropriate, but the placement of the meter on the screen can very and get really confusing. As far as hitting goes, not much has changed here. There seems to many new welcome hitting/home run animations by hitters. Definitely adds to the realism of the game, and the way the ball comes off the bat.

Graphics

There are Great graphics. I've experienced glitches where the meter gets stuck in the middle of the throw that caused errors. The mechanic needs to be patched and hopefully it will be in the near future. I've also experienced some awkward looking animations by outfielders that can be detrimental to the outcome of the play. I think the developers overall need to just work on the relationship between the fielder and the throwing meter. The ball can sometimes look really awkward coming out of the player's hands. The graphics are insanely good with my only complaint being the inconsistent skin tone colors.

Controls
The main thing that MLB: The Show seems to have done in recent years is to add more and more different ways to control the game. It seems like every year, there's a new default pitching meter or way of batting. But, to be honest, these core mechanics were fine to begin with, and really didn't need to be changed. Having more options is nice in the abstract but, I suspect, to most gamers it will mean nothing. The average MLB: The Show purchaser has likely had the game before, and they have an established favorite among the two or three options.

Ratings(Personal)

I hope that next year will provide a more compelling experience in franchise mode, and that with the move to the next generation of consoles; the developer will finally streamline and cut down some of the many, many useless options or modes that have accumulated over time.

MLB 2K11

Developers: Visual Concepts
Publishers: 2K Sports
Age rating: E
Modes: Single Player and Multiplayer
Console(s): Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Wii, Nintendo DS, Microsoft Windows, Cloud (OnLive)

Synopsis

A number of small changes make MLB 2K11 better on the field than its predecessor, although the majority of the new game is identical to the old game.

Gameplay

Look I love the baseball genre and was totally let down last year but then hearing that changes were made to improve the game play I was hoping upon hope that this years release would be better. Boy was I wrong!! The pitching is ok even though you can throw the ball so far out of the strike zone and it will be either called a strike and the ball will mysteriously appear in the zone and be hit. A single ask you? OH NO its either an extra base hit or a home run each time. However, like I said the pitching is o.k., because these were rare. The hitting gives you a nice sense of achievement when you crack one, but don't get your hopes set on making a slugger and expecting to hit HR's. NO, after a 30 game stint I had hit one (1). That's all while racking up 73 hits. Now lets talk about why you should NOT and I repeat NOT buy this game. The base running is ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS!!!!! I mean it stealing is almost impossible and while my guy has average speed hes constantly thrown out from right field and first and don't even think about breaking up a double play. I guarantee you wont even make it half way before the ball has already been thrown to second and relayed to first.

Graphics

The graphics are OK seems like there are a lot of pixels just jumbled together at some points on the players. I mean if Tiger Woods can have a very smooth looking player and nice looking atmosphere why cant all games? I am taking the game back today which is 2 days after purchase and getting MLB 12 The show. I played this game last year and will say it kept me involved for quite a while. However even that lost favor about 75 games into my 3rd year. Hope this helped someone from spending their hard earned money on a bad game.

Controls

Controls have been tweaked a little (The fielding, routine plays, etc. are more fluent.) One of the goals is to hit n run. Okay sure I am literally holding down the advance runner button and hes not moving until after the guy pitches. The AI pitcher doesnt throw over much unless you make a speedster and even those guys are slow with their perspective job I mean. Of course the speedster is going to be the faster of the preset, but its still just bad! One thing that will upset you to the point of just sitting there and either having your mouth open and saying "Huh?" or cursing so bad people think you are nuts. When you are running do not hit the advance button more than once. If you do, your guy can be standing on the base and all of a sudden just take off. I mean it for no reason just takes off for the next base.

Madden 25

Game Information
Name: Madden 25
Genre: Sports,Football
Release Date: August 27th, 2013
Developer: EA Sports
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Rating: E (Everyone)
Platforms: Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Xbox One, Playstation 4

Synopsis

Celebrating 25 years of innovation, Madden NFL 25 unlocks the power, precision, and creativity of the NFL ball-carrier. Whether you're a slashing running-back, dual-threat QB, or ball-hawking safety, unleash 30 new moves and string together devastating combos with the all-new precision modifier in Madden NFL 25.

Presentation

Presentation this year looks better than ever. It makes you feel like your actually watching an NFL Broadcast. The menu's are easy to navigate and with cool things like twitter streams in your connected franchise mode makes it that much better. It does get to a point where you hear them saying the same things. The presentation this year also brought back the commentary of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms. The commentary is on point every play of the game although you will find yourself listening to the same thing over and over again just like previous years.

Gameplay

Gameplay in Madden 25 this year was focused heavily on the Running Game. The new precision modifier they have introduced. This allows new spin moves, jukes, cuts, and dives. With Dual-Threat QB's becoming a new thing they even introduced some new exciting formations and plays, such as the Read Option. Although in Madden 25 it is not has overpowered as it was in NCAA 14. EA Sports decided to re-vamp the Infinity Engine this year in the game so the tackling looks beautiful although at times you still get those crazy animations where it looks like someone has broken their arm. It is truly some spectacular gameplay and you can find yourself playing this game for hours on end. It is sure to be the best Madden to date.

Graphics

Graphics are still beautiful. The visual detail that they have been able to put in this game is truly amazing. The detail of their facial features has always is great. The stadiums look amazing and the coaches look good too, although some look a little strange but I don't expect them to make them look perfect. As of recent though the Next-Gen graphics look stunning.

Some great reviews submitted recently, good job. It's amazing how the standards have risen so much over the past month. It's nice to see my layout being used too. Keep up the great work Space_Bound, Sporting and Pathway. Hopefully we'll see some new game reviewers in a couple of months

Bulletstorm
Release Date: February 22 2011
Developers:People Can Fly, Epic Games
Publishers: Electronic Arts
Platforms:Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, PS3
Genre: First Person Shooter

Synopsis
Bulletstorm is a 2011 first-person shooter video game made by Polish developer People Can Fly and the American company Epic Games, and is published by Electronic Arts for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows. The game was released on February 22, 2011 in North America and on February 25, 2011 in Europe. The game is distinguished by its sense of style and crass humor, rewarding players with points for performing increasingly ludicrous and creative kills. Bulletstorm does not have any competitive multiplayer modes, preferring instead to include cooperative online play as well as score attack modes.

Plot
Bulletstorm takes place in the 26th century when aliens start to take over the world. You are playing as Grayson Hunt who is the leader of dead echo squad. The dead echo squad is full of criminals. The character that you play as attacks the generals ship and is put back in his cell. They start getting attacked and Grayson uses the escape pod. He meets up with two people to team up with him, Toshika and Ishi. When you are killing aliens with Ishi she tells you that the general was responsible for your fathers death. They all make there way up to where the general landed, once there the general said he had nothing to do with it. The general brings a "rescue ship" to save them all. But when they get in there is a bomb there that leaves them to die. They all run to the generals ship again to his rescue ship. But the general sends out troops to kill them all, they all have to kill there friends and turn on them, then Trishka is demanding to know who killed his father. Grayson gets in trouble and is about to die but ishi sacrifies herself instead of Grayson. Grayson and Trishka run to try to kill the general but he escapes. After the credits it's revealed that the general and a cyborg Ishi has been revived and is under his control. Really short story.

Gameplay
Bulletstorm is a first person shooter that is really bloody and fun. It has both firearms and melee. There is also this leash that you can kill people with. The single player is fun but really short. There is seven acts but like 4 chapters in each of them. The campaign is unique and hasn't really ever been done before. There is missions where you have to defend a base attack and all out war this is the game for you on single player. There are lots of challenges in it. From easy difficulty to insane it's really fun. I would recommend playing on insane because it is really easy. Multiplayer is fun in this game with lots of unique maps that have electric tornados and more. There is a name for every thing. You automatically get a leash at the beginning of multiplayer where you can throw the aliens into stuff like a dinosaur that goes NOM NOM NOM and eats it which is really creative. There are 65 levels and each level you rank up and can customize your weapon and character where you can be completely invisible. Really fun multiplayer

Controls
Controls in this game are really easy and simple to follow. At the beginning of the campaign it should give you a guide on all the controls. On the first couple of missions you might be like these are really hard, well if campaign doesn't work for you go on multiplayer and Hyde them. Once you get use to them you will learn combos with your leash and certain moves to do with them. If you need to get under something you can slide under it and if you are in close quarters you can kick aliens into stuff. Really good controls, just like gears of war.

Graphics
Graphics in this game are really good and look a like to Gears of War. When you shoot something at an alien blood will splatter on the wall or it will just be a full pool of blood. All cacti and and special features on the map are nice and smooth. Not many glitches where you go under the map or having an alien in a spot where you can't kill it. Only problem is when you are killing alot of aliens and there is a bunch of blood you will start to lag a little for a little time, but when the lag happens you can move like at all. Needs some improvements but really good overall.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Game Information

Name: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Genre: Action-Role Playing
Release Date: June 4 ,2013
Developers: Bethesda Game Studios
Publishers: Bethesda Softworks
Age rating:M
Modes: Action role-playing
Console(s): Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360

Synopsis
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the big, bold, and beautiful sequel you hoped for and is sure to bewitch you for countless hours.

Gameplay
They completely revamped some of the skill "minigames" such as lockpicking, smithing, and speech (thankfully). Lockpicking was inevitably going to be tedious, but is way less frustrating than trying to pick a master lock in oblivion. Smithing is also a major improvement in that you no longer have to deal with the constant wear and tear of your weapons and armor. The graphics are pretty outstanding, but that goes hand in hand with improved technology, Elder Scrolls games have always been at the forefront of graphics. The music is great as always, series fans like myself will find some familiar scores from Morrowind and Oblivion, as well as some great new additions as well. In addition to there being a lot more enemies, they are scaled much better with your level. In previous installments like Oblivion, it seemed like you and the enemies were fighting with toy weapons once you got to a high level. In Skyrim they do a good job of making sure that enemies can both deal out and take damage so that you are not forced to sit in front of a goblin spamming the right trigger until it finally dies. There were also major improvements with regard to your offensive capabilities. For one, having the dual hand system is such an improvement to the overall combat mechanics, allowing you so much more diversity in how you approach a battle. Also, even after 100 hours, I still would never tire of the execution cinematics. There isn't too much change to the weapons, magic, and armor systems, which probably is a good thing.

Graphics
The graphics are pretty outstanding, but that goes hand in hand with improved technology, Elder Scrolls games have always been at the forefront of graphics. The music is great as always, series fans like myself will find some familiar scores from Morrowind and Oblivion, as well as some great new additions as well. Some other changes I think they were wise to make is to allow you to have followers (Nobody likes getting over encumbered), Adding perk trees (allows for a much greater level of customization), and the addition of shouts adds a whole new dimension to combat that is really both satisfying and plain amusing. I may be making this up, but it seemed like quests had more choices and branches than in the past as well. There really are many more great qualities of this game, but if you have ever played or seen it played you know what I am talking about.
Controls
The game still suffers from some bugs and crashes, but that's to be expected in any game this large. In classic Elder Scrolls fashion, on both of my playthroughs I encountered a bug that prevented me from finishing a questline (Thieves guild and Dawnguard), and my game will freeze from time to time, but since autosaves are now so plentiful, you usually will not lose much progress, and sometimes can even reload autosaves to avoid bugs. To make an observation, it seems like Bethesda removed some of the complexity and features of the game to make it more accessible to the average gamer. I really can't blame them for doing this, and in most cases it actually works out nicely, but I still have to lament the fact that in Morrowind there were probably twice as many skills as in Skyrim and many more spells (Please bring back levitate)
