This is post is old who bumped this? Haha but great topic. I'm completely against beats. Especially people who get them because "they look cool". They should really be $30 headphones, thats all the sound quality worth that it has. Horrible build as well, things break all the time. Problem is nomatter how much we all prove to everyone how awful they are, people will always still buy them -_-

Exhilaratory wrote I am not going to sit here and defend the Beats while everyone hates on them. But to be honest I really like my Beats Pros, and I am very well aware of the fact that they are far over priced and aren't the best headphones in the world. I will let you know right now that if you are someone who uses them with your iPod/iPhone or anything like that, you will be very disappointed. It's because almost all of the portable music devices people use these days play music at very low quality, therefore if you buy the nicest pair of headphones in the world, and you use them with your iPod, they will not sound good.. AT ALL. But, if you are using these headphones with a computer, I am absolutely positive you will love them, unless of course they are uncomfortable on your head or your previous headphones were even nicer. One more thing, these are not, NOT, average consumer headphones, they are meant specifically for being used with computers and other devices that can actually power them. So guys, stop **** about how they suck, because the odds are you've been using them with an iPod or iPhone. 'Nuff said. I hope that by reading this you will now understand why some people like Beats Pros and i also hope i have enlightened you all:).

1. Actually, sources now are exponentially better than they used to be. Your common iPhone is about on par or better than "grail" MP3 sources of yore. I got to try a Rio Karma, which used to be wildly praised for its sound back in 2003. The iPhone actually sounded clearer and airier, and this is coming from someone who really dislikes Apple. Heck, computers' onboard sound almost sounds worse. They're just louder.

2. Explain what the use of thousand dollar custom IEMs is if you're not supposed to use then on an iPod or iPhone.

3. Encoders nowadays are fantastic compared to encoders of years ago. Don't believe me? Take this test: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] If I have to use my $700 hyper-detailed setup to really tell the difference without straining, that speaks volumes. 128kbps files used to be incredibly crappy, but that's just not the case anymore. Anyone putting down others with 128kbps files that were recently encoded needs to be less of a hipster. (Note: I still use 320kbps or FLAC files anyways because I actually can easily pick out minuscule faults and would be annoyed with the slight artificial sound of lower-quality files.)

4. YES these are average consumer headphones. They're literally the most sensitive headphones at its price point, ever. The Pros are usable with any source. They do sound better amped (I used them on a speaker amp to, ya know, get the job done), but that takes them from $100 headphones to maybe $175 headphones. They are still the most artificial-sounding headphones I've ever heard. It's kind of pathetic that Monster decided that this is the sound signature that they wanted for their top-tier headphone. I prefer my $5 Koss KSC75 to the Pros to be quite frank.
