I'll try to have another listen to the Pros from my own source. The pair at the Apple store was limited to whatever edgy rot Apple put on their latest Nano and the last time I listened to a pair in Best Buy, I thought they sounded pretty goofy (probably because of what they were playing).

That reminds me... I bought a refurb Clip Zip for $23 and a 32GB SD card to go with it! Not as exciting as some fancy orthos, but I love this thing. I've heard of two more modded T50RP sellers recently, so I can only guess that market is getting pretty interesting.

They really need A LOT of warming up to sound...not piercing. I like them a lot out of the SA-31 amp. I mean, they're not worth anywhere close to their MSRP but...they're not nearly as bad as I thought they were out of store displays. If anything, they cripple these. Considering they sell for like $150 used on eBay, I'd venture to say that compared to Ultrasones, you get something a bit better if you're willing to do some modding. I'm listening to the new Skylar Grey album through them and...it's a really nice combination. But any sort of folk or...anything that requires correct timbre sounds...average. It's very clearly unrealistic, so if you listen to them with that in mind, they might surprise you.

Also, have you Rockboxed it? I'm thinking of picking one up for working out and walking to classes. It's amazing how cheap 32GB micro SD cards have gotten. That combo cost like $45 right? Insane.

And yeah actually I'm getting another (two!) pairs of T50RP mods to review next week. It'd be cool to compare the "ultimate" T50RP mod to them. I really wish LFF didn't want $730 for the really nice looking ones. $500 is already pushing it, but there don't seem to be any other closed headphones that fit my sound signature preferences. The W1000X seemed to be close to ideal until I got the Beats Pros and realized the W1000X's similar treble peak will not work with me.

Budget: 45 GBP

Music preferences: I will be using them for gaming mostly.

Type/form-factor: Over ear.

Open or closed: Closed.

Listening from: PC.

Details: I want the headphones for gaming and quality audio, and I do not want a microphone attached.
I would like the headphones to be relatively durable and last some time, thanks.

So I've had a look at the driver on the left ear and there's nothing. Still rattles. Getting quite annoying really.

Just got some Apple Earpods about a week ago. Wow. I was surprised by the sound. Not bad at all. On par with the IE2 and a very nice warm sound.

Maybe the cable...? I'd send it back to Beyerdynamic before your warranty runs out.

The Sony V6 has okay soundstage and is incredibly durable.

Yeah, I'm not going to try to pass judgement on something I didn't have any significant amount of time with. I'm also not about to go pick up a pair of Beats!

I installed Rockbox immediately and Sandisk's firmware didn't seem very good at all. I didn't even bother with it. I'm just happy to be free of iTunes with the 8GB Nano 6G this replaced!

If shipping was cheaper, I'd totally send it your way, but...I can't really spare the $10.

How's the colored screen? I have one of the original Clips (battery's dead though...) and the OLED that came with the old Clip was nice, but kind of boring to look at and annoying to scroll.

Also, I just realized that I'm probably going waaay overboard with the headphone spending. The Paradox can wait for a while. I'll probably end up with a full-sized closed (or a DT880 to mod to close) and some portable with a mic.

Scratch that last post; I found an HD650 for $250. I need to try that. Even if I don't love it, I can trade it for something else closed. Didn't get money in time; they're not headed my way. But I am being gifted two pairs of Stax (Lambda Pro and SR202) in exchange for restoring some gear, so that makes up for that.

Also, what are your opinions on the Surface RT? It's only $315 with the .edu duscount. It didn't seem like the best of ideas at $500, but it sounds pretty nice for $315. I just might get one for times my laptop is too inconvenient.

We're getting a little off-topic... Maybe I should add "headphones general" to the topic title or keep discussion to PMs.

But for the RT, eh. You still have to buy the keyboard and $315 can get me a bunch of other nice things.

Right, I probably should keep more to topic

Well, to try to get back onto topic, would you happen to know which $300ish portable closed headphones with mics work with Android phones/Windows 8 laptops? I know the M100 does and the Amperior/Momentum don't(Just kidding apparently only the controls don't which isn't very surprising), but other than that, I can't think of many. Now that I have the Lambdas (and for basically free), I have some money to spend on a closed portable, which will probably end up being used more than the Lambdas and SA5000.

Oh and details...
Music: Yeah I hate to say this but pretty much anything. My walk from one end of the campus to the other is 1.6 miles and my tastes can change randomly.
Form factor: Closed, foldable
Source: Either a phone (Amaze now, Probably the GNIII when it comes out) or a Millet Minimax.

I'm not really looking for a particular sound signature; I've tried the M100 (thank you Microsoft store) and I liked it, oddly enough, but I could also do with most other sound signatures, as long as the level of realism is there.
