Reuters wrote Time Magazine named U.S. President-elect Donald Trump its person of the year on Wednesday, citing the upheaval in American politics brought about by the New York businessman's election campaign and victory.

"Its hard to measure the scale of his disruption," Time said in its announcement, noting Trump's career as real estate magnate and reality television star before he won the presidency on Nov. 8.

"For those who believe this is all for the better, Trumps victory represents a long-overdue rebuke to an entrenched and arrogant governing class," the magazine said.

"For those who see it as for the worse, the destruction extends to cherished norms of civility and discourse, a politics poisoned by vile streams of racism, sexism, nativism."

"It's a great honor, it means a lot," Trump told NBC's "Today" show in an interview shortly after the announcement.

The magazine said its short list for person of the year included Clinton, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and singer Beyonce.

People are so quick to judge Trump yet He's done more for this country in the last two weeks then Hillary has done in 30 years.

Let's all act like they haven't done this to create controversy and sell more copies of their magazine.
Because everyone knows that they would have sold the same amount if someone like Ayaan Hirsi Ali was named person of the year.

I can't actually believe they seriously considered Recep Tayyip Erdogan for this.
And Beyonce? Why? Because she's Beyonce?

Instead of choosing people who are on the frontlines of combating poverty, world hunger, oppression, terminal and life changing illnesses, let's put a singer, two people who ran against each other in the same election, a world leader who is crushing human rights in his country, and "the hackers" on our shortlist.

I don't even know why people take Time magazine seriously any more.

Still shouldn't make him Person of the Year (and this is coming from someone who wanted Trump to win; let's just not get into a whole political debate.) I went and looked at Time's Person of the Year, and it seems like they add presidents in all the time, however it doesn't mean they should all be in. Truthfully, a lot of these entries make no damn sense off of title alone. in 1969 "The Middle Americans" was apparently listed in Time's magazine for Person of the Year. In 2011 "The Protester" was named in Person of the Year, when it's trying to lump all the protests than happened that year into one protester apparently. Going from there, I can make the assumption that "Person of the Year" is someone who had a big impact or was heavy of the news, which would be very apparent of Angela Merkel. Her big impact can be a good or a bad thing, depending on which you believe in with regards to the migrant crisis. While Trump was big news and arguably had an impact on the world with his win, I still don't think it was enough for him to win Person of the Year.

As Veidt said, it's to create controversy to sell more copies. You will have Trump supporters pointing to it saying "Our guy won the presidency; now he won Person of the Year" and then to further gloat about it. Then you will have people opposed to Trump buying it to see as to why he was picked, then become vocal about it and in some extreme cases, you'll have people buying it, so they can destroy it; basically wasting their money so they can have an opinion to be heard (mostly online.) Works the same with other issues. I'll use the migrant issue in Europe as an example. Do you think the media will showcase more articles about migrants helping European citizens or about how they're going around causing fights, riots, being violent and raping people? Easily the negative one. You can find countless articles with regards to that, because the media knows how on edge Europe is with that whole issue, that printing something negative will give people the reason to say "I/[we] was/[were] right about them" while others are give the reason to say "Media bias, not telling the whole truth." Either way, it's getting attention, making money; the same way Time did with Trump. Does he deserve it? No. Should being a president/president-elect make someone to deserve it? Not unless they really made an impact. However this election was easily a toxic shit storm between everyone, even after it's over it still is and still will be a toxic shit storm; might as well abuse that for money. Great business move in my opinion though.

What has he done? The Carrier deal turned out to be a sham and he's turned his entire administration into a swamp full of lobbyists, bankers, and executives.

Person of the Year doesn't mean what you think it means.
