XeX_Troy wrote to be on the safe side, your supposed to have a anti-virus and an anti-malware. It may run your computer down a bit but at least your computer wont have viruses or worms

I usually don't run anti-malware software. It's a good thing to use it but it's easy to know what you should or shouldn't download.

If not, download a VM of your operating system to test if certain files are malacious

If I've learned anything in my years of computer experience, it's that if you're hesitant about executing a file, it's probably not something you really should be executing in the first place.

Don't really use any actively.

Run malwarebytes once or twice a week.

I usually use my ISP's provided one or just the default Microsoft Defender whatever it's called now of days, I keep a set of programs to clean out my computer or other computers whenever I need to but I usually don't download anything that I don't trust and mainly only download images or videogames from steam.

I use Emsisoft Internet Security, not many people have heard of Emsisoft, but personally I prefer Emsisoft over most AV vendors because of their respect for the users privacy with the addition of their great signatures and zero day protection capabilities.
