OK guys, I'm going to play Devil's advocate here. I, like many of you prefer manuals to automatics because it's more involved, and I feel more "connected" to the car when I'm driving. The only reason I would buy an automatic is for traffic, as Stelter said. Or if I had no clue how to drive a manual and destroyed the clutch, because depending on how fast ones clutch wears out it could be financially smarter to go with an auto. The myths about autos being more efficient than manuals are poppy ****. Most modern manual transmissions can hold their own against an auto in terms of fuel consumption, acceleration off the line, etc. Hell some new manuals even have failsafes put in to help keep the car from stalling.

In a lot of cases in newer cars, automatic is faster than manual.

I drive an auto sports car every day. 45 minutes on way, 45 minutes back constant traffic in a stop-and-go area sucks. I like to have fun in my car, doesn't mean i need a manual to do so. I personally enjoy it shifting for me I never really get out of 2nd gear in an auto 4 my whole commute. The whole "being connected" topic I understand, but i am too lazy to drive with two feet, and one hand and waiting for my shift point.

In addition, my auto 4 trans am has the option to be put in gear 1,2,3,D(overdrive) so in a sense, you can manually shift it but not worth it.
