I remember a news story when a robber fell through the roof of the house he was trying to break into. He landed on a knife that was left in the kitchen and the house owner got in big trouble. It's stupid

@Liberate, it is the truth.
Have you not heard about that guy a few years back who's house was being broken in to by 3 guys, so he went downstairs with a cricket bat and hit them (scaring them off) and he got punished ?
Presuming you are from the UK.

No I haven't heard of that, and you should definitely quote the law.
From everything i've read on the actual Government website, you are allowed to use reasonable force.

Reasonable force, therefore not hurt someone by hitting them. If you feel threatened then you can act in self defence as long as it is reasonable force. Anyway; [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] .

This sounds quite stupid. At all times while I'm home alone I have a kitchen knife next to me.

You can use reasonable force.

EG. If someone breaks into your house and tries to harm you
You can hit them with a chair onto the floor - sit on them.
You can bash them over the noggin' with a baseball bat
(so long as it doesn't severely injure the intruder)

You can't stab them 50 times.
You can't hit the over the head and once they're down, hit them over and over.

Sure, it kind of sucks.
But they're human too, sure they may have a reason but there are worst things that could happen.

How does that kind of suck? Its so people don't shoot kill someone who is more then likely not going to do anything but steal something. "oh your trying to steal something from my house and you don't have a weapon? here stand still so I can stab you 50 times in the chest, it is only self defense."

A lot or arguing, we get it you can only act within reasonable force when it comes to situations like that.

There's a law which means you have to use reasonable force.

Someone who actually checked up on the law, I applaud you sir
There was a case a while back where a criminal who broke into someones house successfully sued the person who's house he broke into, as the home owner savagely attacked him and nearly killed him.

I'm all for reasonable force, but is there any need for you to beat someone within an inch of their life for entering your home unwanted etc?

I heard something a few years a go stating that you can only harm the intruder if they are upstairs in your house. Obviously without permission.

Whether true or not, we better start keeping kitchen knives in our bedrooms. At the very least RPG detachable ceiling fans.
