Most people who play video games understand that it's a game; however, there have been cases where people try to draw a connection between the game and reality. Usually, those people already have some type of abnormality that is further stimulated by playing video games. Video games themselves are not the explicit problem, it is usually a failure to realize how certain people react to playing the respective game. This is not always true but from the stories I have read about people who commit violent crimes and have played [violent] video games exhibited prior abnormal behavior.

People just look for things to blame but it some cases it's true, if your mentally challenged and wrong in the head then violent video games can give people bad ideas. If your a "normal" level headed guy like myself then violent video games don't have any effect on making you violent.

Video games are never the main cause for crimes.

Violent video games can be a small factor in them from time to time, but so can violent books, and no one complains about that.

Generally no but in some cases where people are easily open to suggestion yes

In the same way that some music has been associated with suicide or violence

It's when the individual in question is susceptible to outside influence and cannot see the difference between Fantasy and reality.

Exposure to violence in any form (games/films) from a young age can dampen the individuals feelings towards extreme violence I the same way porn can change men's perception of women

If there is an issue with the individual in the first place then it could help cause an issue

Lets get this straight...
'Cooking Momma' doesn't make you a chef
'Fifa' doesn't make you a footballer
So why would 'GTA' make someone violent?
That's my opinion anyway haha

Just the thought of someone thinking this makes me laugh. It's been proven that violent video games don't make a difference in someones thought pattern. People just think that playing something like GTA V is going to make you violent because it is lazy research.

Well there is that whole thing with The Catcher In The Rye. While it isn't really incredibly violent, it 'corrupts morals' according to people who challenge it.
Even then though, before Ted Bundy was executed he said, "If you want to stop people from becoming like me, don't burn catcher in the rye, burn hustler."

When it comes to whether or not video games cause people to commit crimes, I think it's a stupid proposition either way you look at it.
If a woman leaves her husband and then he murders her, you don't blame the woman for encouraging him. You blame the man for being bat poop insane.
If video games make a small majority of people more violent, that is no reason to ban them.
The only thing which should be blamed for a person committing a crime is the person themselves.

While I don't think games make any difference to whether or not a person is going to commit a crime, I don't like this type of argument. Being a chef or footballer takes skill, it doesn't really take skill to grab a knife and stick it in someone.

I do not think that crimes start from Video games. I think crimes are less generated from playing the game because violent games could release your anger built up inside.
