Your wireless internet isn't going to be as powerful as your wired. When you buy or upgrade your internet speed or get with a new provider you real need to read there fine print as an example if you see or hear guaranteed 50mbs download speed you will have that speed for wired but your wireless will always be weaker if you want my advice just stick to wired it's way better.

I understand it would be slower, but having it almost 35-40mbs slower, I doubt it. Before upgrading it, I was getting 18 dl/ 2mb upload on both wired+wireless.

This probably means that you have an out-dated or lower grade wifi card in your system.

You may want to upgrade or buy an external wifi source to your laptop or anything else you are struggling with.

If you do buy one, Try to get a dual band 300mbps one, That way it won't struggle with your 30mbps and would fly it with ease.

I remember reading that 802.11n routers are best for WiFi range. also as Zeff said, make sure that your wireless card is up to date as it may not support the newer wireless standards and forcing your router to talk to your laptop on an older standard.

Lastly before i leave the topic, I personally like Belkin in terms of wireless adapters. I use This one [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] but i'm only on 17 mbps so something along the lines of [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] should be ideal for your connection needs.

EDIT: Lol i keep posting and editing but i did some research on your router and it doesn't all that bad but it is out of date and has been replaced with this one [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] Again sorry for the cluster and over editing but just thought i should add this in.

My current one should be enough, and should be working.

Mode Up to 270Mbps at 5GHz &
54Mbps at 2.4GHz

that's exactly what I have it set as, yet it's slower then crap.

You should log into your router and take a look at the settings.

Well, believe it or not, the security was what was going on. I changed it from WPA(TKIP) to WPA2(AES)
and that fixed my speed problem. wow.


I'd like to thank telli for solving this, and to everyone else who replied, it was appreciated.
