Cross-Buy Coming to Xbox One and Windows 10

4.6
During a panel at GDC, Xbox Division Head Phil Spencer gave another glimpse on the future of Microsoft’s platforms.
Spencer mentioned that a cross-buy option will be implemented in Microsoft’s storefront, enabling gamers to purchase a game with both a Windows 10 and Xbox One version, and to play it on both platforms without an additional expense, pretty much like the feature available on the PSN for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita and on Steam for Windows, Mac and Linux.
The option will not be mandatory, meaning that developers will be the ones to ultimately decide on whether games will be cross-buy or will have to be purchased separately on each platform.
Basically, we’ll get more bang for our buck, and that’s always a great thing to hear. Hopefully the option will be widely adopted by developers.

I don't see how it'll be successful. I just don't see developers wanting to forego extra revenue they'd be getting from separate PC sales. Honestly, I can't say I want the whole "Xbox live experience" thing they seem to want to push on to PC gamers either. Anyone who was a pc gamer during the GFWL days knows how much of a disaster it was. Microsoft has made far too many empty promises to the pc gaming community. I'm ready to see developers making more games compatible with Linux so I can get rid of windows all together.

Seems like a fair feature to get some PC published games from microsoft

One of the worst things about consoles is the price structure for digital games. Almost never will you find a good deal in the Xbox store
even the "deals with gold" promotion only matches the price of a physical game (at best)

Being able to buy games on the cheap via Steam and playing them on the Xbox would be pretty good.

Cincinnati-Bengals Let's be honest, how many developers are actually going to start essentially giving away profit and letting consumers spend less money. When in reality has this ever actually occurred?

You don't see many developers selling windows-only, osx-only or linux-only versions, do you?

We will see this being used, of course i highly doubt we'll see loads of AAA titles getting on board, but definitely a few.

Reptrain Well this sounds really cool.

Well it means there will be no more "xbox exclusives" Only PC Exclusives :D

although "The option will not be mandatory, meaning that developers will be the ones to ultimately decide on whether games will be cross-buy or will have to be purchased separately on each platform."

Which means no luck for AAA titles.

How do you figure that? All this means is that you can get a PC and console version of the game you're purchasing (if it's on PC), devs wont stop making console exclusives because of this.
