The video starts with a man swinging his arms at police officers outside a Los Angeles homeless shelter.
An officer tackles him to the ground, and three others try to subdue him. At least one pulls out a Taser and tries to shock the man.

"Drop the gun!" a voice yells.
Seconds later, five gunshots ring out, prompting shock and screams from bystanders.
"Why did y'all shoot that man?" one witness yells. "Y'all got (him) tased. Why did you y'all shoot that man?"

The fatal shooting Sunday on Los Angeles' Skid Row sparked renewed outrage online over what some consider unnecessary lethal force by police. The shooting took place near the Union Rescue Mission, a homeless shelter in a neighborhood rife with poverty.

Anthony Blackburn, a bystander who shot the video, said he started filming with his cell phone after officers surrounded a homeless man in front of his tent on a city sidewalk.
"I had my phone out, you know, videotaping the whole thing 'cause we've been hearing on the news about police brutality," Blackburn told CNN affiliate KABC-TV. "I just wanted to film it and just make sure everything was all right. But I ended up seeing a tragedy."

Los Angeles police Commander Andrew Smith said the man was suspected of robbery. When officers tried to arrest him, he started fighting with them.
Smith said police tried to shock him with a Taser, but that didn't work. After the man reached for an officer's gun, three officers fired at him.

"I don't know what they found on this individual," Smith told CNN. "Obviously he didn't have a firearm."
Witness Tonya Edwards told CNN affiliate KTLA-TV she knew the man who was shot, describing him as a homeless person who had "a lot of mental issues."

Another witness, Yolanda Young, told KTLA the man "had three Tasers on him."
"He was down, but then he jumped up, like he was juiced up, and then he started swinging at the police and they were fighting him back. ... They shot him five times," Young said.

While police struggled with the man, another tussle broke out when one officer lost his baton. A bystander picked it up.
"Get my stick! Get my stick!" the officer yelled as other officers tackled the woman.

Blackburn said fellow witnesses were bewildered by the shooting.
"The young black officer that shot him, he went over to the crowd, telling everybody back up in an aggressive way," he told KABC.

Late Sunday, a crowd gathered at Los Angeles' Pershing Square to remember the man shot, known as "Africa" and "Brother Africa."

[I would put the source here which is CNN, but it contains the video of the man being killed and I'm not sure if that is allowed on TTG.
Google searching, 'Los Angeles police shoot, kill man on the ground' will bring you to the article.]

Look at the video guys... Both him and the women are throwing punches and kicking... After they brought him to the ground and tazed him, he was still being aggressive. Therefore action had to be taken. Now, 5 shots was probably a little overboard, but nevertheless, they did what they had to do.

People keep thinking cops are out there just to kill but theyre the ones standing and protecting everyone. Just like the military. This guy/teen looked like a thug, with 8 cops there, it wasnt just a typical stop. He clearly did something which needed that amount of cops.

$100,000,000 says if this person would have been civil about the cops confronting him, he'd be alive and going about his day. Welcome to the world people. You break the law, the cops come after you. You try to fight back, the cops dont take shit and will end it. Done and done.

8 cops and they had to kill him to subdue him?
That's tragically hilarious to be honest.

Just like the military.

Perfect analogy considering the military are trained to kill first and ask questions later.
I.E: Chris Kyle. Lavish has convinced me otherwise.

Holy... The video was crazy.

Makes me like, sick to my stomach or something.

Very brutal and maybe he shot the man to many times but wow, that was intense.

Saw this last night on Facebook and wasn't really shocked. If 5-10 cops can't take down one man, than I think it's time we need a huge reform to the police force in this country. Or maybe just some slightly intelligent, competent people in the force. I guarantee you I could have went up to 5-10 strangers and told them to subdue this guy and I guarantee you they could have done it. No guns, no taser, just body weight.

I don't care if the guy had his hand on the officers gun, he was not an immediate threat. Unless the man managed to unholster the gun and point it directly at an officer, he did not deserve to die. If you believe that that is an immediate threat to the officers life, than you need to rethink everything in your life.

I hope that homeless man gets some justice. But since it's the police, I highly doubt anything will happen. Maybe an unpaid vacation at most.

The issue is that he grabbed the Officers Firearm.

The ONLY reason he'd do that is to use it.
Having 5+cops take him down, not okay. Learn to do it with less, and without a tazer.

Firing 5+ shots, not okay. It's extremely close, 1 shot can kill.

Although, if you go up to a cop, and attempt to grab their firearm, you BET THEY WILL FIRE UPON YOU.

I try not to choose sides with issues like this since some people on TTG are very Anti-Cop for some reason. (They protect you, yeah some a terrible and shouldn't be cops but remember they're are good people...)

And some are Anti-Idiots with issues involving cops and lethal encounters.

All in all, don't even attempt to grab an officers gun if you don't want a bullet in you.

The other guy even tried to take the other officers nightstick.
Clearly with the intent to also use it.

Just because a man died to cops doesn't mean it's without fault.

I think Cenk made a good point on The Young Turks. There were so many cops there. If the man was reaching for the gun, the cop should have just stood up. It is ok to back up sometimes. I think cops need to learn how to defend themselves in situations like this without using lethal force. If you have that many cops around and they can't take down one man without killing him, there is a problem there somewhere.

Do you honestly believe this?
When you kill a civilian that turned out to be innocent, they'll charge you with murder.

That is what the whole "They'll fry you if you're wrong" quote was about in the Chris Kyle movie, since you want to use him as reference.

Those civilian death statistics you see are the collateral damage from bombings, not someone pulling a trigger.
